Baron Davis and Blake Griffin

The Clippers biggest need right now is to dump really bad contracts (they have about three of them).

Would the Grizz consider taking the number one pick from the Clips if they had to take Baron Davis too?

I'm thinking:
Grizz get Baron Davis, Blake Griffin, and Eric Gordon
Clips get OJ Mayo and Rickey Rubio

The Grizz get a whole lot of talent. The only drawback is having to pay Baron Davis over the next five years ... especially when he is sooo injury prone.

PG - Davis - Conley
SG - Gordon - Jaric
C - Gasol - Milicic
PF - Griffin - Arthur
SF - Gay - VETERAN G/F

I would do it. I think OJ is a better long term prospect than Gordon, but the drop off from Mayo to Gordon isn't all that big. Gordon is also a much better fit next to Conley IMO, as he is much more of a pure SG while Mayo is a combo/PG.

So the trade is basically Griffin and Davis for Rubio, which I would do in a heartbeat. However, I'm not sure the Clippers would do it. I think a Gay and Rubio for Griffin and Davis deal is more plausible, but I like this one a lot better.

I get the feeling that the vast majority of Clippers fans would holler and scream at the very thought of parting for Gordon - even for Mayo.

I think something along the lines of -

Baron, Thornton, #1

Rudy, Darko, Buckner and #2

would suit both teams better in the long run.

You don't think the Clippers would like to give away Baron Davis' contract?

... they do.

The Clippers should do back flips if they can dump Davis like Denver dumped Campy ... for no salary in return.

Also, Mayo has LA written all over him. He'll make Kobe look pretty bad in about three to four years.

Well, if Dunleavy thinks that highly of him, then this trade would actually be possible, but I'm pretty sure he doesn't at all.

I know it seems like a lot going to the Grizz, but it's not when you consider that Memphis will have to take Baron Davis' contract which pays him 55 million over the next four years.

How many games will Baron Davis miss over the next four years ... lots. He's already 30 years old.

Griffin, Davis, and Gordon for Mayo and Rubio.

This trade is fair for both parties.

Hell if I'm the Clips I'd trade Rubio and Zach Randolph to the Warriors for pick seven (DeRozan), Jamal Crawford, and Anthony Randolph (very talented player -- arguably more upside than Griffin).

A Mem/LAC/GS three-way deal would be best.

Memphis gets:
Blake Griffin
Baron Davis
Eric Gordon

LAC get:
OJ Mayo
DeMar DeRozan
Anthony Randolph
Jamal Crawford
Ronny Turiaf

Warriors get:
Rickey Rubio
Zach Randolph
Al Thornton

I think it makes the most sense considering Memphis' cap room and the Clippers need to dump salary.

Even though the Clips like Rubio, I'd dump him too to rid myself of Zach Randolph's contract. The only overpaid guy they'd have would be Kaman who can raise his value by just averaging a double double (very possible).

I think the Grizz are a borderline playoff team with:

PG - Davis - Conley
SG - Gordon - Jaric
C - Gasol - Milicic
PF - Griffin - Arthur
SF - Gay - Danny Green (#27)

Sorry, quick no's to all the ideas mentioned above from the Clips. Especially Davis, Gordon and #1 (Griffin) for Mayo and #2 (Rubio). Giving away 3 starters for 2 starters, one that is 18, is not an option whatsoever for the Clips. There is no way they'd ever consider #1 (Griffin) and Gordon together.

How about:

Memphis Out
#2/Gay/Darko Buckner
Memphis In
#1/Crawford/Maggette

Clippers Out
#1/Davis
Clippers In
#2/Gay/Darko/Buckner (Darko is expiring, Buckner $1 million cap hit this & next with buyout)

GSW Out
Crawford/Maggettee
GSW In
Davis

Memphis Lineup:

Conley/Crawford
Mayo/Crawford/#35 (Dionte Christmas)
Maggette/#27 (Sam Young)
#1 (Griffin)/FA (Glen Davis)/Arthur
Gasol/FA (Bourousis)/Hamed

Let me try again. A Mem/LAC/GS three-way deal would be best minus us giving up Mayo and us receiving Davis.

The truth is no clip fan will like any realistic trade involving Griffin. Trades that are cap minded suck for fans. Period. But they are realistic and are definitely going to happen on draft night this year.

I think all of the proposed trades are plausible. The clips have to get some cap flexibility and have to get their cap aligned with their projected revenue. Its a simple business fact. The best that the Clips can hope for is a trade possibility that saves face.

That is why I think the most likely trade is Rubio and Gay for Baron and Griffin. No team (and both teams) win on that one.

The grizz badly need player like Griffin. So much so that I see them overpaying a bit in both Rubio and Gay.

The clips badly need cap help, but I think they are going to push all they can to save face so that their move doesnt LOOK too cap oriented. (They don't want to be this years Grizz trade afterall)

That's my opinion anyway.

I've thought about this a lot, and think that the clippers will be under a ton of pressure not to trade away this first pick of the draft. Just look at the Cleveland vs. Orlando series. It is pretty clear that a great star like LeBron is worth much more than all the other players on his team. That is the reality of the NBA.

Now Griffin may not be LeBron, but there is hope and a chance that he will be the next great dominating young player.

You just don't give that up, unless you are offered a very very lopsided deal, one that would cause the buying team a great deal of anxiety. I think Griz fans just have to be realistic about that. You are in a position of weakness in the trade. The difference between the #1 and the #2 is a mountain this year.

That said, I think you can at least gain the Clipper's ear with the following offer:

#1/Baron for #2/Gay/#27

This will give the Clippers a great young SF which they need, an inexpensive (compared with baron) and exciting young floor general to rally the troops, and an additional prospect that can be used to fill in the cracks in the cement. It also gives them some immediate cap relief they can use to pick up an additional quality free agent.

If you scoff at this trade, then realize that basically you are admitting that you are not willing to pay the price for Blake Griffin, the #1 player this year in the draft and that's ok.

I agree with you completely they definitely have to publicaly walk the line but I just think that you SAVE face the most by walking away with OJ Mayo ... even if you have to throw in Gordon too ... knowing that you could package Rubio, Zach Randolph, and Al Thornton for Jamal Crawford, #7 - DeMar DeRozan, Anthony Randolph, and Turiaf.

The clippers would have NO face to save if they cut 90 million and payroll and had a competitive team like this:
PG - OJ Mayo/Collins
SG - Jamal Crawford/Taylor
C - Chris Kaman/Jordan
PF - Marcus Camby/Turiaf
SF - Anthony Randolph/DeRozan

I would do this in a heart beat coming from a dubs fan. I think that losing AR would tough but having thornton would soften the blow. Turiaf was the heart of the team but Zach Randolph would immediately be traded as he will not be able to run in Nellie's system. Ricky will be the pg we need so it solves all our problems of having to move monta to a pg. They are both young and will be a small but effective backcourt.
