L.A. Clippers Trade Breakdown

Incoming Players
Caron Butler
Brendan Haywood
#2 pick

Why?

Wizards shed payroll with Buckner's contract buyout. Maintain good production from the SF position with Rudy Gay.

Grizzlies get Griffin and some solid bench depth.

Clippers get Rubio, an upgrade at SF and a solid defensive center in addition to contract relief by moving Kaman. Can move BDiddy in a separate deal.

Wizards

PG - Gilbert Arenas/Mike James/Patrick Mills (#27)
SG - DeShawn Stevenson/Ricky Davis/Javaris Crittenton
SF - Rudy Gay/Dominic McGuire
PF - Antawn Jamison/Andray Blatche/Javale McGee
C - Chris Kaman/Etan Thomas/Pecherov

Grizzlies

PG - Mike Conley, Jr./Marko Jaric/A.J. Price (#35)
SG - O.J. Mayo/Nick Young
SF - Hedo Turkoglu (FA)/Al Thornton
PF - Blake Griffin/Hakim Warrick/Darrell Arthur/Songaila
C - Marc Gasol/Darko Milicic/Hadaddi

Clippers

PG - Ricky Rubio/Baron Davis/Mike Taylor
SG - Eric Gordon/Mardy Collins
SF - Caron Butler/Steve Novak
PF - Zach Randolph/Marcus Camby
C - Brendan Haywood/DeAndre Jordan

** The Clippers would probably also exchange cash to the Wizards for the #27 pick. Might be good for both sides as the Wiz don't really need any more rotational players on guaranteed contracts.

I love it for the Grizz, but honest to gosh I just don't see the Wizards doing this without moving either Davis or Randolf. How about getting beyond crazy and broadening the scope to include Golden State and something along the lines of:

The Wizards quickly and definitively decline. The Wizards owner is very old with a very serious illness. He wants to make one last run at the championship so they're not necessarily looking to shed salary. If they were, there are a lot easier ways to do that than to trade two quality pieces in Butler and Haywood.
