#2 pick

Post#1 » by rak1974 » Tue Jun 9, 2009 4:55 pm

I see Boston, Houston, and NY have talked to Memphis about trading for the #2 overall pick. what would you all like to see happend more.
1. Ron Artest and Carl Landry for # 2
2. David Lee and #8 fro #2
3. Rajon Rondo and Leon Powe for #2
4. Al Horford for # 2 and Warrick
5. keep pick and draft Rubio and risk him not coming over or forcing a trade in that case you would
get much less for him.

I don't know Memphis fans...... I know it sucks that you have a player that doesn't want to come play for your team. I know how that feels being a Hawks fan. We went through the same thing a few years ago when no one wanted to come and play with the Hawks a few years ago. Don't get too upset you have Mayo and in about two years I say that all the free agents will want to come and play with him. But if I were a Memphis fan I would want to do one of these trades. And I know I am a Hawks fan and I have been pushing Horford for #2, I would like David lee and # 8 better. So, it seems like having the number #2 pick in this years draft may be the best position to bee in.
Keep Mike Bibby

What player doesn't want to come to Memphis? Is it Thabeet? I hope so, because I don't want him here. Is it Harden? Same with him. Don't want the Grizz blowing the pick on a backup to Mayo. I know it's not Rubio. Did you know that Memphis is the only front office Rubio has met with, since the draft lotter? No, you probably didn't. Can you cite a source that quotes Rubio himself saying he doesn't want to come to Memphis? No, you can't. And finally were you aware that there was both a Trade Thread and Draft Thread (each of which cover this topic from top to bottom) stickied at the top of the Forum. No to that as well.

Sorry that I'm coming off so harshly, but this has all been covered and it's getting old with folks coming in with the same rehashed rumor and incorrect info time and time again...

Oh how I wish we could have a lengthy discussion about the #2 pick in a bigger thread...lol just kidding.

Ideally, #4 would be done but I doubt Atlanta wants to do that deal. I'd be content with #3, but replace Powe with Glen Davis. Though I'm not sure what happens to Mike Conley if Rondo comes in. Maybe trade him for another lotto pick?

Dont you need salary going back to make these trades possible?

The Grizz have expiring contracts in Darko and Buckner (essentially expiring buyout), and a not so bad "bad" contract in Jaric. Additionally, the Grizz have so much cap space now they they could simply absorb a significant amount of salary as well.

I would only think, in order: #5, #4 and then #3

Artest and Landry is garbage for us and David Lee already made a statement that he woudn´t play for Grizz

Are you guys going to trade your #2 pick to the Fakers for like Adam Morrow, for yet another huge controversial trade?

Lets make history!

Actually, it'd be a variation of #4

Al Horford (starting PF) + Jordan Farmar (Conley's b/u) for #2 + Warrick
with #2 going to LA and Andrew Bynum + #29 going to Atlanta.

Atlanta is in compete now and needs a Center to get into the CLE/BOS/ORL talk.

If Boozer or Milsap won't sign via FA, then combining two of the rumored suitors for the #2 in a three-way deal could work for all involved.

Memphis:
Trades #2, Gay, Arthur, #27, and Darko
Receives Rondo, David Lee, and Glenn Davis (with contract extensions), along with Wilson Chandler and Eddie Curry, and Boston's 2010 1st rounder

New York:
Trades Eddie Curry, Wilson Chandler, David Lee
Receives Darko, #27, Arthur

Boston:
Trades Rondo, Big Baby, 2010 1st
Receives #2 & Gay

Memphis:
PG: Rondo, Mike C., Marko J.
SG: OJ, Buckner, #36
SF: W. Chandler, Hakim
PF: Lee, Big Baby
C: Gasol, Eddie C, Haddadi

The team is well balanced. It becomes more experienced, tougher, deeper, and improves the defensive character of the team. The Grizz pick up another first rounder next year to possibly pair with their other firsts to move up in the draft of 2010.

Knicks do this to shed Curry's contract. They give up two good pieces to shed salary for 2010, so they obviously lose in the short-term. However, they will be a lottery team and should receive a very good pick in 2010 (possibly the first pick in a strong draft) while potentially upgrading Lee and Chandler to Bosh and LeBron. If the gamble pays off, they are the easy winners in this trade.

2009
PG: Duhon, Nate (resigned), #8
SG: Hughes, Joe Crawford
SF: Richardson, Gallinari, #27
PF: Harrington, Jefferies, Arthur
C: Gortat (MLE), Darko, Sene

2010
Steph Curry, Duhon, Nate
Hughes (resigned), 2010 Lottery Pick
Lebron, Gallinari, (2009 #27)
Bosh, Harrington (resigned), Arthur
Gortat, ???

Boston will only do this if they feel Rondo is going to ask for too much money next year and essentially handcuff the organization. Rubio won't be ready to lead the Celtics, so they have to pray Kidd, Miller, or Bibby is willing to take the mid-level for two years while grooming Rubio. They would also have to trade their expiring contracts for a serviceable big and hope to get a ring-chaser for the LLE. Boston has the expiring contracts of House (if he signs his player option), T. Allen, Scal, Pruitt (team option), and Giddens (team option) to nab a big from a team looking to dump salary. If things worked out, they could field a team that would compete for a title for at least two more years while continuing to add younger pieces to stay competitive even longer.

PG: Miller/Kidd (MLE), Rubio
SG: Allen, Pruitt, #58
SG: Pierce, Gay, Walker
PF: KG, Antonio McD (LLE), Powe
C: Perkins, Kaman (Trade)

Actually, it'd be a variation of #4

Josh Smith (starting PF) + Speedy Claxton (Conley's b/u for 1 yr) for #2 + Warrick
with #2 going to LA and Andrew Bynum, Warrick + #29 going to Atlanta.

fixed - per some ATL feedback

Memphis now has this:
Gasol/Darko*/Hadi
Josh/Arthur
Gay/#27 (Sam Young?)
Mayo/Jaric/Buckner*
Conley/Speedy*/#36 (Toney Douglas?)

* expirings in Darko, Speedy, Buckner

and around 53 payroll - room to manuever

I guess I'm not the only one in the clouds, ran this by ATL too. Some Atlanta fans comments on the trade:

by theatlfan on Tue Jun 09, 2009 5:21 pm
"I guess it's possible. Something to the effect of Bynum to ATL, Smith to MEM, and Conley or Rubio to LAL would work. Due to Bynum's BYC, there couldn't be too many other moving parts though.
I guess we'd have to consider it. Bynum is a true C and it isn't a stretch to see him as a 15 point / 10 boards / 2 block guy for the next 7-10 years with the possibility of being more. MEM gets the PF that fits with Gasol"

by parson on Tue Jun 09, 2009 5:32 pm
"Have to consider it"? We'd be crazy not to DO it. A lineup of Bynum/Horford (or Smoove)/Marvelous/Joe/PG would be killer.

by D21 on Wed Jun 10, 2009 9:57 am
"On the trade, if we get Bynum to play center, and keep Horford, I don't think we need all these bigs in the draft, at least it would depend on what we do on free agency before this trade."

Not one said 'hell no', some had reservations particularly due to contract and injury recovery. And the usual, what's LA get out of it (which has minimal impact in nba gm world but reigns in the realgm world).

Glad to see you've been here a whole 6 weeks and feel compelled to respond.

I don't know how true it is but I read in the past week that Josh Smith has a trade kicker in his contract courtesy of the offer sheet from Memphis that requires an 8 million dollar lump sum payment if he gets traded that all but makes him impossible to move, at least to the Grizz.

It is really sad the crap we get offered for the #2 pick but I guess we brought it upon our self for the idiotic past deals we have done.

I've read that it's 15%. One source was of the current year's amount and one was of the total contract, which would work out to be about $8.7 million. He ain't going anywhere. He won't even be moved as an expiring deal.

Oh well, the only player we should be looking at on the Hawks roster is Al Horford anyway. A Horford/#19 for #2/#27 deal would be ideal for both teams IMO.
