You Guys Would Be Better to go BIG!!!

Post#1 » by Mamba Venom » Sun Jun 14, 2009 4:12 am

If you draft the 7-1 Thabeet the Grizzles would be like a young version of the Lakers. The Grizzles would have a very talented player at every position.

Dunlevey 15 / 7
Mayo 20 / 4 / 4
Gay 15 / 3 / 5
Gasol 14 / 10
Thabeet 10 / 10

Just an outsider looking in Dunlevey is good, don't waste him or take a chance at slight upgrade. Go big and then try to find a tweener off of the bench. Your club would have the opportunity to develop into maybe even a better team than the Lakers.

Its a much safer bet IMO

Other than one is an African American 6 foot point guard and the other is a 6'9" Caucasian shooting guard, I'm sure folks confuse Mike Conley for Mike Dunleavy all the time...

he probably meant make a trade have Mayo run the PG and bring in Dunleavy to add length. Not sure about Thabeet and Gasol that is a great young defensive front court but a scoring PF would be more useful.

I meant Conley...

it was late when I typed it

I really think that the Griz would be better drafting a center and playing big. M Gasol can learn to play both positions just like Pau can. M Gasol should start at PF and then let M Gasol play center w/ a good PF off of the bench.

Unfortunately that just won't work. Marc has very a very different skill set from Pau. He's a classic center in every sense of the definition. Marc's very important to the Grizz, both on the court and already as a team leader. The Grizz don't need to compromise his area of strength. Additionally, Thabeet will be at best a serviceable big man - most likely a total bust though.

Honestly I don't hate Thabeet and think in time he could turn out to be one of the better centers in the league. But he has alot to learn and there's no guarantees that he has the inner fortitude to be a dominating center. I compare him to Tyson Chandler, a player who took lots of time to develop.

But unlike alot of posters I wouldn't write him off as a bust, no way. But he isn't what the Grizzlies need at the moment.
