Slow Form RealGM Mock Draft

Post#1 » by dice » Fri Jun 19, 2009 3:27 pm

No clock here!

When the Grizzlies board makes its call I'll move on to the next team board. I'll wait until it seems a clear frontrunner has been determined. If that cannot be accomplished I'll step in and make a reasonable selection for you :wizard:

1. Clippers - Blake Griffin PF, 20, Oklahoma City, OK
2. Grizzlies - Ricky Rubio PG, 18, Barcelona, Spain
3. Thunder - Hasheem Thabeet C, 22, Dar es Salaam, Tanzania
4. Kings - James Harden SG, 19, Los Angeles, CA
5. Wizards - Tyreke Evans G, 19, Chester, PA
6. Wolves - Demar DeRozan G/F, 19, Compton, CA
7. Warriors - Jrue Holiday G, 19, Chatsworth, CA
8. Knicks - Jordan Hill PF, 21, Atlanta, GA
9. Raptors - Brandon Jennings PG, 19, Los Angeles, CA
10. Bucks - DeJuan Blair PF, 20, Pittsburgh, PA
11. Nets - James Johnson PF, 22, Cheyenne, WY
12. Bobcats - Terrence Williams SG, 21, Seattle, WA
13. Pacers - Stephen Curry G, 21, Charlotte, NC
14. Suns - Earl Clark F, 21, Plainfield, NJ

15. Pistons - Austin Daye F, 21, Irvine, CA
16. Bulls - Jonny Flynn PG, 20, Niagara Falls, NY
17. Sixers - Ty Lawson PG, 21, Clinton, MD
18. Wolves - Gerald Henderson SG, 21, Caldwell, NJ
19. Hawks - Eric Maynor PG, 22, Fayetteville, NC
20. Jazz - Jeff Teague PG, 21, Indianapolis, IN
21. Hornets - Darren Collison PG, 21, Rancho Cucamonga, CA
22. Mavericks - Marcus Thornton SG, 22, Baton Rouge, LA
23. Kings - Tyler Hansbrough PF, 23, Columbia, MO
24. Blazers - BJ Mullens C, 20, Canal Winchester, OH
25. Thunder - Sam Young SF, 24, Clinton, MD
26. Bulls - Wayne Ellington SG, 21, Wynnewood, PA

And with the #27 pick Memphis takes...?

edit - lack of caffeine and reading comprehension at the time of original post.

Grizz take Omri Casspi @ 27.

with the #27 pick, Memphis takes Victor Claver IMO

edit: have forgot Casspi. Would be a good pick though I still prefer Claver.

It's not about the foreign content. It's about the best player available at #27. I'm sure I've missed a couple other players in the mix but Casspi makes sense. He can play a role that the Grizzlies lack. With Rudy Gay and Hakim Warrick(who may or not be back) they have talented offensive players but neither are willing to be the hardnosed, give and take bruises types that are ever going to be known as solid defenders.

Casspi has a reputation as that type of player. Aggressive, scrappy, willing to mix it up are all words I've read that describe him. I read where he manhandled Austin Daye in a head to head workout, so much that Daye went to the hospital to get stitched up.

A backup physical small forward suits me just fine, especially at #27. And if he decides to stay overseas another year then there's nothing wrong with that since Memphis isn't going places next year anyways.

Maybe Dejuan Summers fits here as well since he's from a college program that develops well rounded players. To be honest I think Ellington would have been a solid choice as well if he wasn't taken right before the Grizzlies. And Sam Young has been mentioned on more than a couple occasions.

So there could be a pool of four or five players that might work. It just so happens that Casspi is among them.

Casspi, makes sense so we can complete our new moniker as United Nations South.

Being from Vancouver and having a hockey team with players from all over the world I can say that it's a new world in sports and you get the talent wherever it materializes. No country has a monopoly. Look at soccer. The NBA is beginning to get it and the best players will be in the best league where there's the most money regardless of origin. It's sure working for San Antonio.

at #36, I would like to take another foreign player: SF/PF Jonas Jerebko...His name is all over draftexpress and nbadraft as a good defender with a good outside jumper...just like an anti-Warrick

I guess Jonas Jerebko since the options I would've chosen have been picked already.
