Grizzlies Draft Night 6/25

Post#1 » by SD2042 » Wed Jun 24, 2009 8:41 pm

The Grizzlies have the #2 pick, #27(from Orlando), and #36 in the draft. All speculations have the Grizzlies drafting Ricky Rubio, Hasheem Thabeet, Tyreke Evans, or draft and trade the pick for multiple assets. With the draft full of guards, few frontcourt players, and being a weak draft, anything can happen. Will the Grizzlies make some smart decisions to salvage this franchise or will they find a way to screw this up? We'll find out on Thursday.

I have a bad feeling, but am hoping for the best.

And by best, I mean getting Kevin Love in some way or form.

No matter what you should hear Ricky Rubio's name called. He's an asset that can be traded ... even in a deal for Thabeet if that's the player Wallace really wants. He needs to maximize the value of the #2 pick.

Here's what i'm hoping for:

#2 and Gay for #5, #6 and Brewer.

My anticipated reaction to Thabeet's name being called at #2 will prohibit me from attending Vernon's party or the one at the Forum. I'm afraid I just won't be pleasant to be around.

The problem with Rubio at 2 is that GMs know he doesn't want to be there, so they'll lowball the Grizzlies.

Just trade the pick before the actual draft PLEASE.

I would not want to be a GM in this draft. Having to hold your nose and draft Thabeet #2 or #3 must be awful. He should be a late first/early second round guy.

We got Thabeet. Somewhere in Grizzland there are some unhappy fans right now. I still think Thabeet may be traded sometime tonight. At least I hope for better assets.

Grizzlies select DeMarre Carroll at #27. Carroll is a utility guy who's work ethic will not be shown in the stats, but rather through his relentless hard work. I guess to say a safe pick by the Grizz despite never seem Carroll played before personally.

I'm sorry, but the Grizz are one of the most tired organizations around. It's sort of my last straw and I cannot say that I will be cheering on the team for the next couple of years. I will try to post a bit, but I have put my fanhood on hold for a quick minute. Let me be honest and say that I could not have imagined a worse scenario if I tried. Thabeet is a bust and a half and we already have Marc Gasol. His shot blocking potential is great in a half court offense. But that is not even what we are going for with athletes like Gay on our squad. We are built to run, but not with Thabeet in the paint. His offensive game is more than a liability. Probably the least deserving number 2 pick I have ever heard of.

If that weren't bad enough, we have the #27 pick. And what do we do? We select a guy we could have gotten mid way to late in the 2nd round. No way he is even the best NBA draft prospect on his own Missouri team. That should have gone to Leo Lyons imo. Carroll is a workhorse, yes. But, with a huge number of talented players still on board, this is certainly a headscratcher. Then, you end up with a chance to take Blair in the second round, and you pass it up. Puke.

This was probably the worst night for me in my sports following career. Our GM is an absolute laughing stock that should be fired and mocked for all time.

Hold on jman - it gets better. Jaric (+ possibly Buckner and Haddadi) for Randolph was reportedly being discussed last night and is not dead...

So much for being cost efficient! Let's add an aged Quentin Richardson to that mix!

I go to a Big East school. I can tell you from experience pretty much everything that Thabeet brings to the table. I know exactly what scouts see in him, and I know exactly why he is a terrible fit for the Grizz with their current roster.

I stated earlier here that the Grizz needed a vet SG with some offensive punch. That person I had in mind was FA Anthony Parker. Didn't expect Q-Rich to be the guy they would trade for. Disappointed that Rich's game has downgraded from what it has been. I wonder how he really feels about being traded to another sorry team. Considering that he was wit hthe Knicks, it has to take a toll on a player's psyche especially his with the tragedy he's been through in the past few yrs.
