Draft night prediction (combining all of the rumors)

Thoughts from Celtics fan. I'm from Jackson, MS so I keep an eye on the Grizz, and make a few games a year.

Heres my prediction for the Grizz on draft day, from piecing together a bunch of rumors

Trade: Conley & Gay for Rondo, and some cap relief (Scal and/Tony Allen)
Trade: Darko for Quentin Richardson
Trade: The #2 Pick to Minnesota for #5 Pick and a future first
Draft: Tyreke Evans or James Harden, whoever is left between the two.

Why?? Rondo's penetration with Mayo and Richardson on the wings could be deadly. Evans could back up the 1,2 &3 spots. Evans helps sell tickets (badly needed) Also, Gay and Mayo don't seem to fit together, for some reason QRich seems like a better fit in my mind.

Why Not?? Thin front court gets thinner

ps, my pic is of me and Big Baby on Beale Street after the game in '08, it was really late, and he was super drunk, ha, oh wonderful Beale Street

Horrible trades and use of the 2 IMO. Well, horrible except for Darko. IMO Darko will only be moved if Thabust is taken @ 2.

What's so horrible?? (really asking, as you've seen your team much more than I have)

Rondo is a huge upgrade to Conley, I would envision the Celtics using Conley as a back up, and signing a Vet to start (Kidd? Wishful thinking) Plus you'd save some dough, lord knows Heisley needs that.

Gay is better than QRich, but I think Q is a better fit along side Mayo. And especially if combined with Rondo. Rondo set Ray Allen up all year for open 3's.

I say trade the pick because of the Rubio situation and I don't believe in Thabeet. I think Gasol is almost as good, if not equal to him. I really think he'll be a bust. A future first from Minnesota is also valuable. It'll take Rubio (who they'd take with the 2) a couple years to be a good starter.

Also, I know it'd be far fetched for all of this to happen, but the rumors seemed to piece together well to make one big happy draft day picture, (ha, how wonderfully corny)

Rondo, without Kevin Garnett and Ray Allen headed up a team with as bad a record as the Grizzlies. Put Conley in charge of the Celtics and they are likely just as successful. Conley + Gay is just stupid.

Trading for Richardson is not predicated on moving Gay. You can keep Gay and trade for Richardson as a backup/change of pace guy. Additionally you could even run a lineup with Mayo at the point, Richardson at the 2 and Gay on the wing.

I believe trading the pick will be the best option as well - I just think you're selling it short. None of us - Chad Ford, Ric Bucher, Andy Katz most definately included - know what the heck will end up going down until it happens.

Again, IMO, the picture you've painted is depressing as hell for a Grizz fan.

There are plenty of other rumors popping up, by the way...

I think this where we disagree the most. Rondo was a rookie that bad season, and didn't play alot. Look at this years playoff averages (without KG or Powe).
PPG- 16.9
RPG - 9.70
APG - 9.8
EFF - + 25.43
He also made the All-Defensive 2nd team. And has alot of room to grow. His shot is coming along, and when he is shooting it confidently, its really not bad. (true shooting percentage .543) Personally I'd hate to see him leave, but something has the C's front office spooked, and shopping him.

But I definitely am pulling for the Grizz, I'd have to say they are my 2nd team. Hope for the best. Enjoyed the exchange.

One last thing on the 2nd pick. Unless you think Thabeet is the right pick, what's wrong with trading for the 5th, and Minnesota's first next year. This is widely considered the worst draft in years, and if you don't take Rubio at 2, whats the big difference in dropping 3 spots??? Evans or Harden will be available at 5. I guess you may not like them. But Minnesota's first next year has a great chance of being very good, in a better draft.
