P. Gasol v. Z-Bo

I just hear all of this talk about how terrible of a defender Z-Bo is, but we heard the same things about Gasol all of the time when he was with us. So I was just wondering who is the better defender of the two.

Good question. Both need help and can't contain their man one on one. I think Gasol makes it a little tougher since he can make players alter their shot with his longer reach. But Randolph is definitely the stronger player and can hold his ground better.

But neither are stellar defenders and put in a better effort on the other end of the floor.

At least Gasol can block shots.

Pau Gasol by far. This shouldn't even be a question.

Perhaps Gasol, but not by much.

I haven't seen enough of Zbo to know, but Pau is a pretty awful man-to-man defender - all of his blocks come through helping. Also, while he may actually try now - the last 1.5 years he was in Memphis, Pau just stuck his hands straight up and stood like a statue in front of the basket.

The blocks are the only reason why Gasol edges ZBo by this much. Otherwise, Gasol's defense draws comparison to a strand of hair while ZBo defense draws comparison to a toothpick.

I think we will not get the chance to see as many of Zack's deffencies due to Thabeet being here. It is also a major reason why they wanted to acquire him this time around as his pro's will out weigh his cons when he is next to Thabeet. #24 is motivating Pau to another level and he is not as big of a metrosexual as he was in Memphis. The answer to your question is virtual wash. Sorry to cop out but both have not been too inclined to stop anyone.
