SG needs

Post#1 » by SD2042 » Sat Jul 4, 2009 7:51 am

With Q-Rich being traded out to get ZBo, the Grizz find themselves needing a backup SG for Mayo. Which player you feel best fits that role for the Grizz.

Here's my list.

Anthony Parker- play both ends, vet experience, perimeter shooting, defense,
Allen Iverson-market purposes, vet experience, scorer, toughness
Marquis Daniels- athletic combo SG/SF, defender, mid range shot, utility player,
Ronald Murray- offensive minded, can score in a hurry, decent perimeter shooter,

Posted on the PG one, but the Lakers might be able to solve both problems... PG Farmar (1.95m) expiring or extend on rookie scale, and SG Vujacic (5.0m) becomes expiring next summer with '09 and '10 left.

Both have 2 years of deep finals runs.

Anything to move that could make it go, solve both probs?

Anthony Parker would be great for this team.

Being from Canada I have watched Parker alot. He is one of those glue type players that doesn't stand out but does all the detail things well, including playing really good one on one defense. I have to say though that he has lost a step last year, plus he's in demand by other teams and nothing less than the MLE would be accepted by him, unless he goes to Cleveland, as rumored, in search of a championship.

Marquis Daniels is an interesting name. Back in his Dallas days he was avery good young player but once he signed his big contract and got traded to Indianna he slipped some, as well as being hampered by injuries.

As a longtime Seattle fan I watched Ron Murray for a few years. The guy has terrific offensive skills but he drove us Sonics fans nuts with his unwillingness to share the ball and simply keep dribbling until he could shoot away.

I still think if Memphis could find a combo guard that would be a key part of a backcourt trio then that is my preference.

Keith Bogans is a solid back up.

Y'all are asking for a lot since I don't expect us to have more than 13 on this roster.

What about Luther Head ?

He could play the backup PG/SG for us, has a solid jumpshot and could help us to improve our bench scoring

I like Anthony Parker for Memphis but why we have to make a trade when we can just sign him ?

If we are in the deal to facilitate the trade we would have to get something more

^^ The deal in question is a no go. The Grizz are better off signing Parker outright depending on price. As for Keith Bogans, he's two steps up from Quentin Ross, but offensively he isn't that reliable especially from beyond the arc. He tended to drive Magic fans crazy jakin up 3balls like he's Ray Allen. No Keith Bogans.

Vujacic isn't consistant on neither end of the court.

On a team that had no bench scoring last year, I like Flip Murray.

Ime Udoka anyone? I know he's not a well known guy and isn't going to help the team win games, but he's a good glue guy, can knock down shots and play solid defense.

Udoka appears to have lost his swagga from his days in Portland. His struggles with the Spurs let him to be lost from their rotation and his confidence. So I doubt the Grizz would even consider lookin into this guy.

Just sign Allen Iverson and let OJ Mayo run the point. Bring Mike Conley Jr. off the bench at the 1 and 2. The Grizzlies would look sooo cool.

I'm all for the Iverson signing, at the right price. Like I said in the Iverson thread with the right kind of system the spreading of the floor with guys that are good one on one like Iverson, Mayo, Gay, and Randolph would give other teams headaches in matchups. But someone has to play defense.

If they hadn't drafted both Caroll and Young I would say a combo player like Parker or Daniels, both who can play defense, would be great. But neither guy would be worth having just to backup shooting guard. They need to be a sixth man that gets into the flow with the first unit.

I'm pretty sure Colangelo won't mind sending a second-rounder or some cash to Heisley to help facilitate the trade.
To SD2042: No one's forcing Parker down your throats. In fact, if you were to sign him, he'd have the same impact on your cap as if you traded for him. The only reason I posted this trade is because the OP had listed Parker as a possible target.

I get what you're saying. It's just that the trade offer to me would be unneccessary since Parker is already a FA that the Grizz or other teams can pursue.

Have you looked at Carlos Delfino from Toronto??

http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/players/s ... yerId=1999

I don't know his game, but from his stats he looks efficient (especially as a 3 pt shooter) and young, and with signing Turk, Toronto has to renounce his rights. Toronto fans seem to be so in love with this guy, I'd give him a look. They really don't want to give him up. He'd probably only cost a couple mil too.

Being from Canada I watch almost all the Raptors games. The thing about Delfino is that like an Anthony Parker, he has the fundamentals down and does the little things that coaches appreciate even though he may not stand out. He is reliable on both ends of the floor. I think Memphis could use a player like that as a sixth man. Good observation.
