Why don't the Grizzlies go after this guy?

Since the Zach Randolph-Quentin Richardson trade isn't official just yet, why not go after Carlos Boozer? The Jazz want to dump him to re-sign Paul Millsap and the Grizzlies have the cap space to take him for nothing. Boozer would give the Grizzlies someone that can score in the post, hit mid-range jumpers and rebound. Best of all, it's only a one year deal if things don't work out compared to Randolph's two years. Since it is his contract year, I suspect Boozer to play through injuries and give effort every night out.
It makes too much sense basketball and finance wise in my eyes.

Because he didn't opt out of his contract and decided to stay with Utah.

He means acquiring Boozer by trade.
I agree with the OP, trading for Boozer would make perfect sense basketball-wise and financial-wise. We could get him for next to nothing now that Portland has made Milsap an offer, and he would fit in much better with our young team than Randolph, is light-years better than Randolph, and is only on a 1 year contract that is about the same amount as Randolph's. Why the hell would they not look into acquiring Boozer?

I wouldn't mind Boozer given what he does on the court, but his history of injuries are too much of a concern for me to consider him as a Grizz. Besides like C64 said, "he didn't opt out of his contract and decided to stay with Utah."

Meh, not worried about Boozer's injuries.
He'll play through them since it is a contract year. I'm certain he would leave in 2010 though unless the Grizzlies make a miraculous run to the playoffs.

Which means rental player if the Grizz went after him. Unless the Grizz into the playoffs like you said.

I follow the theory that states "Anything to do with Zach Randolph is all bad", therefore a season long rental of Carlos Boozer is completely fine with me.

To refresh your memory:
Boozer said early in this past season that he was going to opt out. That made LAST season a contract year. Yet, Boozer still missed about 50 games - only returning toward the end of the season.

Like anyone should take Boozer's words LOL.
But at least he had the option to fall back on this past season. He doesn't next season which leads me to believe he'll play through the injuries and what not. It helps he doesn't have to carry other player's bags like he did last summer too LOL.

It makes too much sense to go after him now. The only possible reason I could see Heisley rationalizing the Randolph trade over Boozer is that the Randolph trade costs less out of pocket this upcoming season (assuming Utah would dump Boozer for no salary in return and wouldn't take QRich for him).

There are rumors that a lot of Randolph's contract includes deferred payments. The $33million that he is due is payable over more than just the next two years.

Yeah, that's been discussed quite a bit on the other Grizz board. With the offer that Portland gave to Millsap, they could have done that. Lately the FO has been taking the path of least resistance too often.

I read on the Clippers board where a poster wrote that Wallace said a couple days ago that they don't have an agreement with the Clippers on the Randolph trade. That's a much bigger statement than saying the deal hasn't yet been finalized.
I know the conventional thought is that due to timeframe issues with the Mavs/Raptors/Magic deal it was going to be delayed, but if he really did say that there's no agreement, with those exact words, it's possible there's more to it than just a delay in timing.
GrizzleGM may be right about the deferred payments and maybe there's dissagreement about something. I could see Heisley balking if it looks like he'll have to cough up more money upfront than he figured and if he felt the Clippers mislead him about deferring some of the money.
I'm not saying it will happen, but it makes for a good soap opera if Memphis pulls out because of a money issue.

If the whole disagreement about the deferred payments is true and the Grizz do pull out b/c of more money. Not only they don't get what they need at PF, but they will look like an organization that lack the brains to run a franchise.
In case, the Zbo trade happens to fall through, who's next outside of Boozer?

I think Randolph being what we need is a matter of opinion. Personally I'd rather stay as is if he's the only attainable option.
