After an up-and-down rookie season, the Grizzlies wanted Arthur to clear his mind and come back ready to play instinctively, as opposed to how stiff he seemed most of last season.
"This was the first time I got away from basketball, and I needed to," Arthur said. "Coach (Lionel Hollins) told me to go home and relax, and just work on slowing down. When I came back, I was ready to work. It was pretty helpful."
Griz assistant coach Dave Joerger, who is at the helm for the summer league games, couldn't be more impressed with Arthur's "motor." Damon Stoudamire is assisting Joerger and he contends that Arthur arrived with confidence they hadn't seen before.
It's good that DA is showing signs of improvement in his game. Only thing that it's summer league and they aren't playing against the main competition. Can DA continue to build his confidence and improve his work ethic when the season begins later this fall. If he continues to work hard on improving his game, I feel he could be another Udonis Haslem type of player for the Grizz. Being able to make hustle plays, rebound, be tough defensively, and prove capable of knockin down a jumpshot when his number is call. He has to make that happen to be part of the rotation.
