The month of July was very busy for Grizzlies guard O.J. Mayo. After showcasing his skills in Las Vegas, he received an award in for those very same skills.

Mayo received his T-Mobile Western Conference Rookie of the Month Award for the month of April during a break in the O.J. Mayo Skills Camp on July 27. This was O.J.’s second Western Conference Rookie of the Month Award (April and October/November), joining former Grizzlies forward Pau Gasol as the only Grizzlies to win the award twice. During his award winning month of April, Mayo averaged 20.3 points, 3.3 rebounds and 1.0 assists, including 20-plus points in each of the final four games of the month to end the season.

He definitely finished the year off strong. He was great in April. But what took so long for them to give him this award? I know he didn't have a post-season, but they've had other opportunities to give it to him.

I guess it's not a big deal to him though. He said in a radio interview that it was great accepting that award in front of those kids.
