Rudy Gay and the wolves

Post#1 » by revprodeji » Mon Aug 24, 2009 7:37 pm

This is not a trade proposal so I was not sure where to put this.

Since before the draft various insiders as well as our excuse for a media has been clear that the wolves have had numerous conversations with Memphis about Rudy Gay. The "what for" has changed. have you guys been hearing anything about this on your end? Does anyone here have connections they can talk to?

Haven't heard much on this. Although I expect the Grizz to retain Rudy for keeps, it will depend on price and how well he continues to play to make the call to extend him a contract.

If management was loathe to include him in a deal for Amare I doubt he simply walks as a restricted free agent. Although if someone makes a crazy offer say above 12 mill a year and escalating, you will probably get him. Overpaying doesn't do just do it justice, paying that much for him is like going "Indecent Proposal" on a hot chick that turns out to be a local Tranny. That sickening feeling in your stomach right now, that is what you will feel like for the life of that contract.

That whole thing is just a bunch of BS. There is no way the Grizzlie's FO lets Rudy go for basically nothing in return; even as dumb as they can be sometimes. If Phoenix gets nixed trying to trade Amare for Rudy (and fillers), then there's no way at all that they will let Rudy walk for Rubio and a draft pick. Rudy isn't going anywhere! He will be extended by training camp.

I'd be surprised if any trade for Rudy went down considering Wallace reportedly contacted him to begin negotiations for an extension the first day he could in July.

It would be after an extension is signed.

If that's the case, then what incentive does Memphis have to deal him? Why sign a proven commodity long term and then turn around and trade him for an unproven rookie PG that will take a few years to develop and has a very delicate contract situation?

in realgm says that he is unrestricted free agent next year and he "might be not affordable" for the grizzles. so the thing is, what contract do they think gay would have?

Well, if rubio is not coming this year, why dont to sing and trade gay for rubio+filler(wolves would dump one of their bad contracts here) next year? if gay is leaving the town i guess that would work for me.

The RealGM article is based on the leaps in logic of a local writer in Minnesota. Nothing to it whatsoever, yet. There's not doubt that Rudy is a favorite of Heisley. He'll get paid here.

Rubio is not involved.
The problem is that there is no value that makes sense. But this story will not go away. I did not come here to convince anyone, cause I dont even like Rudy, but just to see if any of you have heard anything.

The answer to that is no, other that what is being reported/discussed here. It's not a blip in the Memphis media at all.

Whats the Grizz fans general outlook on Rudy Gay as a player and future with the team?

Hmm, Minny doesn't really have much to offer outside of Rubio. There's Love, but Memphis probably could have had him during the draft, and that was before the Randolph trade. There's Jefferson, but there's no way in hell they give him up for Gay. Perhaps a third team could be involved? Heck, I didn't even know talks were serious until now.

WTH - there AREN'T any talks. Just speculation from a Minnesota reporter. That's it.

Just like if I said "LeBron is likely to leave Cleveland and Memphis is interested."

All this is, is random speculation - NOTHING more.

Geez.

The MN reporter is not credible. he just got a sniff of something and ran with it. Mn has been talking to Mem about Rudy Gay since prior to the draft. The closest we got was a Gay+2 for Love+6. I received two emails yesterday that there are still some talks but there is a serious issue with value fitting. Honestly I hope there is no deal. I do not think Rudy gay is worth the cap space or value to get him.

take my word for it or do not. I just wanted to share with you guys what I knew.

I wasn't going by the Minnesota reporter's speculation, I was merely taking revprodeji's word that the two teams are still talking about a deal.

Gotcha and understood. Sorry for snappin'. Just sick of the Grizz being the perceived Quickie Mart® of the NBA.

See, at the time this deal made hella sense.
Randolph was still on the Clips if I am not mistaken.
Minny would have taken Thabeet and put Big Al back at the 4, or they even liked Harden or Evans that much. But let's say they went with Thabeet and then still got one of Flynn or Rubio.
PG Rubio/Flynn(One or the other)
SG Carney??
SF Gay
PF Big Al
C Thabeet

Then Memphis gets Love to put at the 4 next to Gasol and takes DeRozan, or retrades the 6xth pick to Toronto or farther for a little extra and takes Terrence Williams or James Johnson at 9th.
PG Conley
SG Mayo
SF DeRozan/Terrence Williams/James Johnson
PF Love
C Gasol

Both teams really balance each other's lineups and take their guy at the appropriate pick.

That would have been interesting...

Yea. it makes more sense then. But I was told there are still talks. I just do not know the motivation you guys would have.
