Mayo and Gay had to be Seperated

http://www.realgm.com/src_wiretap_archi ... separated/Memphis teammates O.J. Mayo and Rudy Gay got into a shouting match near the end of the team's loss to Denver on Sunday night.
Mayo scored a career-high 40 points, but the Grizzlies lost 133-123.
The incident took place during a timeout late in the fourth quarter. Gay took exception when Mayo made a strong comment about his teammates not getting back on defense, according to the Memphis Commercial Appeal.
Grizzlies coach Lionel Hollins and a number of players stepped in to separate the two players.
"I told them to shut up so we can get on with the rest of the game," Hollins said. "It's not about you. It's about us trying to win a game. We can't stand here with you guys going back and forth. It was a heat-of-the-moment incident. They get along. They're just competitors. They both want to succeed."
After the game both Mayo and Gay said that the incident was "nothing."
Whenever you have teammtes that aren't known to play the best defense around, someone is bound to say something about it. In this case, OJ spoke his mind on it. I think the real reason why Rudy took exception to Mayo's comments was due to how Melo was playing on last night. He was playing like something fierce and he's been playing like that since the season began last week. There were times where Melo simply caught Rudy feet napping to where he was able to get around him and their were times were Melo was able to take advantage of mismatches like Sam Young for instance where he bit one of Melo's fakes so he could get a closer shot to add two more.

You forgot the fact that Mayo had 40 and Gay, whilst being humilated by Melo, was probably still thinking about his lack of an extension.
I'll tell you what, him arguing with Mayo, whom by the way is probably the future of this franchise, is not helping his case for an extension

Trust me. Can't forget that 40pts he dropped on the Nuggets. Unfortunately it was in a losing effort. As for Rudy, to me he's not the face of the franchise. He is a good complimentary player good for 16 to 20pts a game. His lack of playing defense is a thorn in the ass. And he has to start doing a better job keep his emotions in check. Sometimes it's hard for a player of Rudy's calibur to play better defense if they weren't known for doing so in the first place. Michael Redd is another example.

Holding each other accountable is a big ingredient that makes a team a winner. I coach lacrosse and I hammer that point home all the time. It's frustrating to see some players busting their a$$es while others think they get a free ride.
Of course each individual player has a bit different role to play offensively but everyone has to work hard on defense no matter what sport it is. If Mayo thought Gay was dogging it and said so then I'm 100% behind him for saying it.
That's what team leaders do.

Finally for the 1st time since the Grizz came to MEM, we may finally have a leader on this team. mayo is the Man.
Keep Mayo, Gasol, Randolph, Carroll and Conley............
Move Gay for Thaddeus Young or a couple of #1's.

Thad Young plays like a PF than a SF. He doesn't have the best range from the perimeter. He's not on the same offensive level as Rudy and unfortunately Rudy isn't on the same level as Thad is defensively. Which offsets the whole thing.
If a player who is better than Rudy on boths ends of the floor happens to be available for the Grizz to pursue, fine by me. Just as long as he fits into the chemistry.

How many free throw attempts did Mayo get in that game? I saw the second half. While Melo was getting lots of touches for the nuggets, Rudy hardly got the ball at all for the Griz. If Mayo wants Rudy to be more into it on defense, he needs to keep Rudy involved in the offense. As it was, Melo got the second half off defensively, because I don't think Rudy got a single offensive touch against Melo in the second half.

Grizz hangs up on that. Joe Alexander hasn't proven himself to be quality NBA talent yet. Plus he's out for 8-12 weeks with that right hamstring injury. Ridnour has problems keeping consistancy in his game for the past few seasons now. Not too sold on him at this point.

Cleveland may be a viable trade option -- if Memphis is forced to deal Rudy -- if it is clear he is not going to resign -- in addition -- financial relief may be necessary as far as the reduced cap may go down. Getting ugly contracts off the books (Jaric) in addition to buying out a player who is traded for will clear up space to more comfortably sign (long-term) the players that are establishing themselves as cornerstones to the Grizz future -- even early in this season (Gasol, Conley, Mayo)
It would be a tough bullet to bite for Grizz fans but I could see something like this happening at the deadline...though I think a third team would have to get involved to help facilitate Memphis not getting the short end of the stick in the deal
Zydrunas Ilguaskus (bought out)
JJ Hickson
Danny Green or/and 1st round pick
for
Jaric
Gay

The Bucks aren't getting anybody even remotely good when the best piece in the package they are offering is Joe Alexander, who didn't even get his 3rd year option picked up and will be a UFA next year.

Memphis certainly passes with that top-10 protection on the 1st round pick.

How about Gay/Jaric for expiring contracts (Tony Allen, Scalabrine, Giddens) and Glen Davis?

where are these lowball offers coming from? Jaric is an expiring contract already and larger than anyone you offered. You are just giving us all the player that play less than 2 minutes a game so far this season for our #1 player

Tony Allen= crap
Scalabrine= supercrap
Giddens= don't know know who he is but ultracrap
BBD= don't mind him, but he needs to get his game right now he's missing six weeks for a broken thumb in a fight.

The deal is to repackage Ridnour by deadline if possible, Alexander to see if there's anything there, and the pick...plus the cap-space since you might not re-up Gay. If you don't plan to pay your RFA, then it's best to get a pick for him now and clear the salary.
