I really put some thought into this. I don't believe Gay is the future of this team.
Gay is a defensive liability and not a true leader. Add the fact that we didn't get him Re-Signed, lets move him now.

MEM Trades:

Rudy Gay
2010 Denver #1
2011 #2

NJN Trades:
Najera
CDR
Nets 2010 #1

The addition of Najera, will add defense and energy to the team. Bringing back CDR, just makes sense and will attract some Tiger fans to the games.

The biggest key to this trade, is picking up another Lottery Pick.

Projected Draft Next Year:
#1 John Wall (Nets projected pick)
#4 Xavier Henry (Grizz projected pick)
#23 DeMarcus Cousins(Lakers projected pick)

2010 Lineup:

Wall/Conley
Mayo/CDR/Young
Henry/Carroll/Najera
Randolph/Cousins/Arthur
Gasol/Thabeet

I can't see NJ going for that. CDR has been great this year, the possibility of landing John Wall is not something they are just going to throw away, and Gay ruins their 2010 plans.

However, I do really like the idea of acquiring another lottery pick in this year's incredibly strong draft. I'd look to deal Gay for the New York pick that Utah owns. I feel like a team like Utah giving up that pick would be more plausible than a full-blown rebuilding team like New Jersey giving up their lotto pick.

So, if Memphis wins the lottery with one of those picks, I'd love to see this kind of draft-
Pick #1- John Wall
Pick #2- Ed Davis
Pick #3- Al-Farouq Aminu (trade up using the two late 1sts)

2010 lineup:
Wall/Conley
Mayo/Young
Aminu/Carroll
Randolph/Davis/Arthur
Gasol/Thabeet/Haddadi

I been saying for the better part of a year now that once the franchise decided to take O.J., they had to (eventually) part with Rudy. We all wanted the duo to work itself out, but it won't sadly.

I think Jersey would say to that deal for the simple fact that there's no need to part with their lottery pick AND a promising player that is still in his rookie contract.

By the way, didn't CDR not work out with Memphis during his draft workouts? I remember him turning down teams in the latter part of the first round because he thought he was a mid-first round pick. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.
