MEMPHIS, Jan. 4, 2010—Memphis Grizzlies Head Coach Lionel Hollins was named the NBA’s Western Conference Coach of the Month (December) for the first time in his career, the NBA announced today.

Hollins led the Grizzlies to a 9-4 record in the month (second only to the defending NBA champion Los Angeles Lakers, 12-3, .800), marking the highest winning percentage ever in the month of December (.692) and the sixth-best record in the franchise’s 15-year history for any month. Eight of the 13 games were against opponents with a winning record, including three victories against division leaders (Dec. 4 vs. Dallas, Dec. 8 vs. Cleveland and Dec. 20 vs. Denver).

As a Blazer fan, I love to see a former Blazer get the honor. Congrats Lionel, you deserve it.

He's a great guy and achieving far more that I hoped he could have so soon. Kudos coach Hollins - glad you're proving me wrong!
