Grizzlies claim Lester Hudson off waivers

Memphis has been awarded Lester Hudson off waivers, a league source tells Y! Sports. The Celtics let the rookie point guard go this week.
Memphis had scouted Hudson a great deal at nearby Tennessee-Martin, before Boston had picked him with the 58th pick of June Draft.
http://twitter.com/WojYahooNBAVery solid pickup. We can't possibly be done making moves though, not with all of the teams looking for luxury tax help and willing to give away good assets in return. Perhaps this is a requisite move that would give us the flexibility to deal Marcus Williams.

Pretty solid backup to have. This guy will be a competitive backup point guard who can really compete for some bench time imo. He was a do-it-all player in college and he should see some time on the Grizz.

We know what Hudson was capable of fom his college days @ UT Martin. Can he be a difference maker for the Grizz is the next question.

Just curious, do you guys think Hudson can be a better backup PG than Williams? To me, Lester is a 2 in a 1's body, but he's not really a PG. Williams, for all his flaws, is a real PG, but then I haven't seen Williams in a while. How has he been for you guys?

Whenever he plays, Williams displays his PG skills in the passing game. Doesn't demand the ball to be in his hands much so he scores occassionally. Mostly on slash attacks. Hudson like you said is a 2 in a 1's body. Instant scoring is what the Grizz are looking for from off the bench. Considering it's Hudson's first year as a pro, I don't expect him to just produce that well off the bat. This team will need some vets for that purpose.

Well, I'm a Celts fan, so, been watching Lester all year (what little he's played), and from what I've seen, scoring is definitely what Lester can do. He's unafraid and aggressive on the offensive end, and he can definitely shoot. Minutes are hard to come by on a championship contending team, especially for rookies, so if scoring punch is what you're after, I think he can do that for you. Good to see him get a shot with you guys.
What the C's need is a real PG backup to Rondo, and Williams is a guy I've thought of that might be able to give a solid 10 minutes of PG play (don't know whether your team would trade him). I know you also have Conley and Tinsley, so maybe.

As a Celtics fan I'm telling you guys right now this guy is going to impress you. I have no idea why we cut him he never showed anything but promise in his very very limited minutes.

Probably like Mencius said that mins are hard to come by when you're a rookie playing on a championship team. Hudson will have to earn mins elsewhere. It would be good if he;s able to produce during his time as a Grizzly.

If the guy was born in 1969, where has he been if it is his first year?

I've heard nothing but good things about him, so I'm excited to see what he can do. However, I think this pick up signals that no trades are imminent or pending.
