I'm thinking, and it's a very radical thought so even if some of you don't believe it will ever happen in real life, please play along.
What do you guys think would be necessary for the Hawks to get Hasheem Thabeet? I'm thinking some time in Summer of 2010... what would it take?
How about if you guys signed Rudy Gay, what would it take?
Not saying any Hawks fans want this, but I'm a UConn fan so I always wondered if it would be possible to get any of those UConn grads to the Hawks and what it would take to do so.
Thanks, and go Grizzlies (second most tracked team for me)

Looking over Atlanta's talent laden roster, I really don't see a piece that fits. And believe me, for the right price, I'd part with the dream without a second thought.

The Grizz's biggest need is bench scoring - at any position really. With that said, I don't see the organization giving up and Thabeet so soon.

You're right of course, jefe. It's just that every time I see Tyreke, Curry, Harden, Blair, Derozan - oh heck, just about anyone else from the '09 draft class, I want to cry...

I agree. At this point, I'm not really sure what Thabeet gives us that Haddadi couldn't - and Reke or Harden would be big upgrades over Young.

Personally I'm "meh" on Teague. However, the FO would never make that deal, at least not now. That would certify that they made the wrong pick.
Full disclosure - I really do believe that Hasheem will develop into a serviceable NBA big man, perhaps even above average. He has the tools, he just needs to develop. However, with both Marc Gasol and Hamed Haddadi, why the hell was he picked? Anywho, he's "our" guy now...

Re: Who do you want for Hasheem?
I am of the opinion as well that you will have to move Hasheem Thabeet. M. Gasol will need to be resigned season after next which looks like that will require at least 10 mill per. Zach Randolph and Ojay Mayo (I think) will also require an extension that same year. No one currently envisions Thabeet surplanting Gasol as the starter so moving him now and gaining additional cap space to sign Rudy Gay on a front loaded deal is necessary. We are not the Orlando Magic so we can ill afford to have 15 mill tied up in the Center position.
As for what we would want from Atlanta, nothing really makes a lot of since other than Jamal Crawford, whose deal would end after next season allowing more cap room to sign the guys already mentioned. The Salaries don't match so the Grizz would have to include a future pick and or Hunter this season, which would kinda make the deal really one sided. Hence ATL is not the best trade partner for a Thabeet deal but I do think he may need to be moved prior to the deadline.

Re: Who do you want for Hasheem?
I honestly don't see Hasheem Thabeet as untradeable, even at this early point of his career. It won't be the 1st time we've done it..."ala Drew Gooden for Mike Miller" that happened is 1st semester in the NBA so its not impossible. Looking across all the teams in the NBA and what we NEED that won't cost us a arm and a leg, what I feel would be perfect for us would be a trade between us and the Wizards. No this doesn't involve J.Critt or Arenas, but it would help us out tremendously I think:
Memphis receives:
Nick Young
JaVale McGee
Fabricio Oberto
Washington receives:
Hasheem Thabeet
Marcus Williams
1st rd pick. (Either L.A. or DEN)
Oberto has to be included for salary cap purposes, but we'll probably wave him or keep him give Hadaddi away for a pick. Young can flat out score and would be a great 6th man. McGee is raw athletic andhas great upside. For some reason, they both don't get much pt this year in WAS. This could work. I also thought of a Thabeet for Rudy Fernandez in Portland, but they're looking for a Center with a expiring contract, and having Thabeet, Pryzbilla, and Oden under contract justt won't happen. I also though of J.R. Smith but he got problems. No need to disturb our chemistry. So this may be the best thing to improve our bench and still be contenders without giving up too much. I love Thabeet, but I'll trade him for the right deal... period!
