Conley on market?

Post#1 » by Blazinaway » Tue Feb 16, 2010 9:38 pm

Heard a rumor from another board that this past weekend that Conley may have been offered for Blake? That make any sense to you guys? Is Conley due an extension like Gay and team does not want to pay him?

Makes no sense at this point and time. Last season there was talk, but at this point it wouldn't float. That's not to say that Conley wouldn't be dealt for the right price, Blake just isn't it.

Agreed. And if Memphis went to Portland and asked them for Blake in return for Conley, that deal would have been done long ago. Doesn't seem legitimate at all to me, especially after everything Memphis has invested in Conley.

I think he'll be moved eventually, but as GGF said, not for someone like Blake.

I've been a broken record for quite a while saying that Memphis needs an upgrade at pointguard, but Steve Blake certainly isn't it.

LOL, well it now looks like the rumor I heard was correct about MEM wantin to move him. Too bad Blazers just traded the two expirings they had that matched perfectly - Outlaw and Blake. Oh well, likely no deal possible now.

I didn't disagree that he might be moved. Blake just wasn't the piece was my point.

According to Tillery, Portland offered Memphis Blake for Conley and Memphis turned it down, not vice versa.

The Griz passed on at least one deal involving Conley. Portland approached Memphis about swapping Conley for Steve Blake. The Griz considered the deal because Blake is in the final year of a deal that pays $4.9 million.

Tillery has maintained over the last month or so (in his weekly chats at thememphisedge) that Conley could be traded if it were a clear upgrade. I don't think anyone would consider Blake a clear upgrade.

Since there's barely any NBA level pointguards in this years draft except for Wall they should try to do what OKC did when they got Eric Maynor to help out a team for cap space and try to pry one of the young guards that are backups this season such as Jeff Teague, Jrue Holiday, or my favorite, Ty Lawson, although I think he's pretty much untouchable in Denver they like him so much.

Give the young guy good backup minutes and see if he develops. Besides Lawson, the rest of the players are buried. Just look at Darren Collison. Stuck behind Paul he hardly was more than an afterthought this season until Paul went out injured. Now given playing time Collison has been amazing for the Hornets.

I should make it clear that I'm not saying trade Conley to give one of these guys starters minutes. I'm saying as a backup at this stage to see if they can play like they all did in college.

I like that thought process, however I don't see any of those names being available.

Maybe an A.J. Price in Indiana..but he would be a longshot to pan out.

Also from what I hear, JJ Barea might be available from the Mavs.
