We're getting reports from people traveling with the Jazz as well as reports from the Memphis end that it's the Grizzlies.
Word that Ronnie Brewer might have gotten traded. Again, trying to get confirmation.

Man, as a jazz fan i would think we could get more than that... Guess Jazz front office really wanted to save some cash.

You got a good deal memphis. I'd like to see the details on how protected that first pick is.

Nice steal, but I think that he´s not what we needed (Roger Mason, Kyle Korver would be better fit IMO)

Pretty good value. I'm just not sure how much this helps us when other teams got MUCH better..ala Houston/Portland.
I hope the Grizz had time to pull off another small trade like Luke Ridnour for Steven Hunter/Hamed Haddadi/Jamaal Tinsley. With Brewer in the backcourt, Ridnour can start over Conley. Bring Conley/Mayo off the bench.
Ridnour/Brewer/Gay/Randolph/Gasol
Conley/Mayo/Young/Arthur/Thabeet
More well rounded roster.

Now you're into dangerous territory. Brewer starting over Mayo? Ridnour over Conley?
Anyways, I'm quite happy about the Grizzlies getting Brewer for next to nothing. I said in the trades forum that with the way they drafted last year it might be a blessing in disguise to give up their pick

.
Since my Sonics days I said that I wanted Seattle to draft Brewer in his draft year. It was because of his defense, not offense. I know the guy isn't a deadeye shooter, but in my opinion it's on defense where he's needed the most in Memphis anyways. I do have to ask if there really isn't more to it for the Grizzlies than to give up their own pick for a rental for a push towards the playoffs considering they have dropped down significantly.
Does anyone else think they might want to keep him beyond this season and hope that they can re-sign him to somewhere slightly above where it would cost them to sign their own pick? I've always liked veterans over rookies so I'd advocate to keep Brewer.
It was a solid move for Memphis in my opinion and I give them a thumbs up.

I would personally resign Brewer over Gay

Well for me it comes down to the protection on the pick.
If it’s in fact a lottery protected first then I feel better. It will give us time to upgrade our PG position before we have to transfer the pick to Utah when we are a better team.
Regarding his play, I'm not sure what to expect.
He's played with Deron Williams in Utah his whole career. Looking at his stats he's very efficient. But almost all of that is attributed to having a great PG that can set him up for easy layups and dunks. Think Steve Nash and Amare.
We already know Brewer's not a good shooter.
Ronnie Brewer on the floor with Mike Conley, Jr. (who's not a high assist guy) and a combo guard trying to develop his playmaking skills won't net the same results.
I hope the Grizzlies put hella protection on that pick.

I could see that. But if they do, they should look to upgrade the PG position with somebody who will be able to get the ball to our guys to maxmize their talents as well as can provide some backcourt scoring because you don't want to have to depend on Brewer to score for you. I'd be ok with using Gay in a sign and trade to do that.

I think you'll be most impressed by Brewer's passing ability. It's been incredible this year and could really help your offense.

He's a good character guy and great along the baseline. His shooting is horrendous though. He doesn't need to be defended any farther than the free throw line.

You wanted the Sonics to draft Brewer back then as much as I wanted the Magic to draft him over JJ Redick. Now that he's a Grizzly, I guess it's fair that we finally got him despite him not being selected by our respective teams per se.
