Ish Smith Draft R1 - Larry_Russell vs. Fadeaway_J*

Post#1 » by Fadeaway_J » Sat Mar 25, 2023 2:39 pm

Here is a quick list of what you need in your writeup.

1. Specific years for each player on your team
2. Rotations and minutes for each player
3. Reasoning as to why your team will win and/or why people should vote for you.

Do not vote in this thread until both managers have submitted their writeups. Please ensure you give a rationale for your vote; votes with no explanation will not be counted.

If writeups aren't posted within 24 hours, we will vote solely based on the players they have drafted (and any rotations they have posted on their roster page).

**First to 3 votes advances.**

Prince (38) / Barnes (10)
Barkley (38) / Barnes (10)
Lopez (38) / Andersen (10)

Lets go.

Defensive assignments
Harden on Battier
Eddie Jones in Conley
Taysaun Price on McGrady
Barkley on Grant
Brook Lopez on Jokic.

I love that I can hide Harden on Battier in this matchup and put 2 ELITE defenders in Conley and mcgrady
Prince with his foolishly long arms will make for a hard game for Tracy.
No center is a great gaurd against Jokic, but I feel like my team is going to make it very hard for the rest of the roster to help him out.

Offensively I can run a 2 man game with Harden and Barkley. It ahould make for an elite offense with the spacing around them as all of the other 3 guys are excellent 3pt shooters

Total: 87.4/88.0

- We've got two of the most dominant offensive forces in the game in Jokic and T-Mac surrounded by a high-level defenders and finishers. The versatility of both our stars will make us damn near impossible to stop; T-Mac is lethal in isolation but is an excellent pick-and-roll creator (he gave the Mavs fits running this with Yao in 2005) and knows how to feed a big man in the post. Jokic can score from everywhere and his GOAT-level passing will create easy looks for T-Mac. 2017 Conley is an excellent third option. Grant and Battier defend and knock down open jumpers.
- Defensively, we'll start with Battier on Harden, Conley on Jones, T-Mac on Prince, Grant on Chuck, and Jokic on Lopez. Payton II will guard Harden during his minutes.
- We will lean into Jokic's perimeter game here, having him step out to the high post run handoffs and pick-and-rolls with T-Mac and Conley. That will draw Lopez away from the basket, leaving Larry with no rim protection.

Good luck Larry.

Harden-Barkley vs Tracy-Jokic are comparable leading duos, but I like Fade's overall supporting cast besides the leading two, although both teams have nice build and solid fits. Being able to put Horace on Barkley and not be punished for Jokic's defense too much defending Lopez, are good matchups for Fade.

Props to both you guys for building well-balanced teams! I'll refrain from voting cause I can't make up my mind. I like both teams.

I agree with durantbird that Fade's supporting cast around the two stars is a little bit better with peak Conley giving him another playmaker, and Grant should work great beside Jokic. I don't love either bench. Vote Fadeaway.

I agree with flaco, this one is tough. I don't like Conley on Jones, he's a very good defender but that's a lot of height difference, I think Jones shoots over him for a big series. I get the choice though cause it works for the rest of Fade's team and Tmac is poised to have a big series, Prince is a long solid defender but not an elite one-on-one guy. I like Grant on Chuck, tough match-up there. Honestly others are saying they prefer Fade's supporting cast but the more I look at it the more I feel otherwise. Jones/Brook are awesome compliments to Harden/Barkley and while I wish Prince/Barnes were a little more willing shooters/better man defenders they're probably better than Battier/Dudley... Yeah, I've gotta

As overall (talent+effectiveness together) duos I think both are similar. Personally I much prefer Jones/Prince/Lopez over Conley/Battier/Grant. Both benches aren't good. Not sure what else to say.

Sorry for late vote

Its hard to build around Barkley but i like what Larry Russell did on the otherhand Fade build well around Jokic. Great fit from both teams. Both teams have great defenders to throw at the main stars. In the end I think Fade has slightly better offense since i like Jokic/Tracy duo quite more than Harden/Barkley and I think Fade also has a bit better defense overall

Didn't want to vote, but I guess someone has to break the tie.

- Assuming it would be a close series, Fade has a considerable advantage in the clutch. The 2 decision makers in the clutch are Jokic and Harden. Barkley is more of a finisher rather than a decision maker. I trust Jokic way more in the clutch compared to Harden who's a notorious playoff choker.
- More often than not, the team with the best player has an advantage to win the series. Jokic is the best player in the series.
