Least Playoff Appearances Franchises Draft - Play in #2 - Dr Positivity* vs Larry_Russell

Post#1 » by durantbird » Mon Nov 4, 2024 9:27 am

Here is a quick list of what you need in your writeup.

1. Specific years for each player on your team
2. Rotations and minutes for each player
3. Reasoning as to why your team will win and/or why people should vote for you.

Do not vote in this thread until both managers have submitted their writeups. Please ensure you give a rationale for your vote; votes with no explanation will not be counted.

If writeups aren't posted within 24 hours, we will vote solely based on the players they have drafted (and any rotations they have posted on their roster page).

87.3/88

Lets gooo!!

Matchups
Price on Williams
Petrovic on Vince
Tucker on Lebron
McAdoo on Love
Garnett on Chandler

There will be some switching around of McAdoo and Garnett as to who is covering who in the front court, but for the most part we will stick with Garnett on Chandler. THis allows for Garnett to roam a bit more defensively as CHandler only takes 7 shots per game and none from any sort of distance. This allows him to be the primary help defender at the rim for anyone that needs it.

Love will have his hands full with McAdoo defending him as Bobs weaknesses as a defender was against giant bodies of the past, Love is not that guy.

Price will be fine against WIlliams, while Price is not an elite defender, he competed as that should be more than adequate against the start of the decline with Deron.

Petrovic always welcomed a challenge defensively, weither wanting to guard Jordan or any teams best offensive player on the win. I think he could do fine with Vince.

Tucker will have the pleasure of defending Lebron. we all know Lebron is one of those guys that he is going to do most of what he wants, but at least Tucker will make him tire.

Offensively I think I cook here.
Deron, Vince and Love all HAVE to defend, and none are known defenders.

Price can cook on Williams. Price was a highly efficient scorer and williams is not a stellar defender
Petrovic was a monster offensively. He scored 40 on Jordan, scored over 30 on Dumar, vince is in trouble here. Petrovic is efficient and elite

Love is going to have to defend one of Garnett or McAdoo, and that will be a disaster as both are MVP guys and in their offensive primes.

Even future DPOY winner Chandler is going to struggle against either McAdoo or Garnett with their ability to face up, drive the ball, make the midrange jumper.

Benches I think are comparable and both servicable.

Defensive matchups: Deron on Price, Vince on Petrovic, Lebron on KG, Love on Tucker, Chandler on McAdoo.

A key is that this is Heat Tucker playing 38 minutes a game at SF guarding Lebron, I don't see him having the legs to hit any shots which hurts his offense and he is old to keep up with him on D. I like his offense a lot otherwise but I believe we are in good position to score on him with Price/Petro D giving up a lot and McAdoo at C is also an ok help defender. Chandler is a great defender for his series as at peak mobility he can guard the Price/McAdoo game. Our bench is stronger hands down when you consider Delly and Korver have perfect chemistry with Lebron and he is playing Redick as his backup PG which has issues both on offense and on D beside Price/Petro.

I think Larry is too vulnerable defensively. I don't like Price and Petrovic on Deron and Vince. It's also true for Dr P but Deron and Vince are a bit better on that side. Also have some other smaller issues like Tucker playing too much and Redick as backup PG. Prefer Dr P here.

I've been having a tough time with this one, because in a macro sense I think Larry's core is maybe more talented, but they have some flaws that become compounded as a collective. You're already starting with a very flammable defensive backcourt, and then Redick is backing them up which doesn't help matters. Redick at backup PG is also a tough sell, although maybe you can get by with KG doing some ballhandling with the second unit? Not a fan of either bench but post-2022 RoCo seems to be cooked as a major rotation player. Tucker at the 3 for 38 minutes is also suboptimal and doesn't do much to compensate for the lack of athleticism at the guard spots. Dr P by contrast has comfortably the best offensive player in the series with a very solid build around him (shooting, additional playmaking, rim-running bigs), and his weaknesses seem easier to manage.

Very close one. I think Larry's team has too much more talent here, which is weird to say when going against LeBron and prime Vince with a complementary build around them.

I'm also torn on this one. Legitimate arguments to go either way. I'm not AS down on Tucker playing that many minutes as others are, as he was still highly effective in his old age. Now, I don't love him having to guard Prime LeBron the whole time, but alas...

With a bit older version of DWill in mind as the 3rd/4th option, alongside Love, I ultimately think Larry has a bit too much firepower here. Yes, Price+Petrovic+Redick is a pretty terrible defensive backcourt, but DWill+Vince leave a bit to be desired as well, not to mention Love and Korver playing big-ish minutes. Essentially I don't think Dr. P's moderate defensive edge is enough to overcome Price+Petrovic+KG+McAdoo offensively.

I’m going Dr. P, even though his team has issues.

38 Minutes of Tucker is laughable. KG / McAdoo is nice, but his guards cannot defend.

LeBron has enough around him. Even though VC ain’t a perfect fit.

I knew lebron would win.
wanted to build something different but knew I would be crucified for the tucker/lebron matchup. was hoping that MVP Garnett and McAdoo would get more love against a Love front court as I felt that Tucker guarding Lebron was far superior to Love defending either of my front court guys.
