Infrequent Finalist Franchises - R1 - JimmyPlopper* vs MadNess

Post#1 » by durantbird » Sun Feb 9, 2025 6:36 pm

Here is a quick list of what you need in your writeup.

1. Specific years for each player on your team
2. Rotations and minutes for each player
3. Reasoning as to why your team will win and/or why people should vote for you.

Do not vote in this thread until both managers have submitted their writeups. Once the writeups are posted, I will add a poll, and the team with the most votes after 24 hours will advance. EACH MANAGER SHOULD ALSO VOTE FOR THEIR OWN TEAM IN THE POLL - IF YOU FAIL TO DO THIS, YOU ARE SIMPLY GIVING AWAY A VOTE. If the votes are tied, we will decide the matchup via AI vote.

You are not required to state or explain your vote, but you are free to comment in the thread if you want to.

If writeups aren't posted within 24 hours, we will vote solely based on the players they have drafted (and any rotations they have posted on their roster page).

PG: Jason Kidd (38) / Delon Wright (10)
SG: Drazen Petrovic (38) / Delon Wright (5) / Kyle Korver (5)
SF: Marques Johnson (38) / Kyle Korver (10)
PF: Dirk Nowitzki (38) / Clifford Robinson (10)
C: Tyson Chandler (32) / Clifford Robinson (16)

1. Dirk Nowitzki (2007) - 17.2
2. Jason Kidd (2010) - 8.4
3. Tyson Chandler (2011) - 5.5
4. Drazen Petrovic (1993) - 16.2
5. Kyle Korver (2010) - 5.4
6. Delon Wright (2019) - 5.6
7. Marques Johnson (1981) - 15.2
8. Clifford Robinson (1999) - 12.6

86.1/88

Exploit Dirk’s matchup:
Marion is a great defender, but Dirk’s high-release fadeaway is unstoppable.
Force mismatches by switching Gobert or Gordon onto him, pulling them out of the paint.

Attack Nash on Defense:
Nash is a defensive liability. Run Petrović through screens and attack him in PnR.
Kidd can post up Nash, forcing help and opening up shooters.

Limit T-Mac & Carter’s ISO Play:
Use Marques Johnson & Delon Wright on T-Mac and Kidd on Carter to slow them down.
Force Vince & T-Mac into contested mid-range shots, not easy rim attempts.

Win the Bench Minutes:
Korver + Wright + Cliff Robinson unit has more scoring punch than Terry + Thybulle unit.
If Nash sits, Ness's offense stagnates—capitalize on that window.

Good Luck Ness

Run run run!

My team is built to play fast. Gobert rebounds, outlets and we run. Nash can push the pace and make everyone better on the court. Our wings are unmatched. VC and Tmac can get up the court and run the floor for lobs. Our offense is flawless. Rudy protects the rim and outlets. Marion is the perfect 4 with the group. AG gives us another athlete off the bench. We will run teams out of the gym.

We plan to attack his wings (Drazen & Johnson) hard with VC and Tmac. We will push the pace and make his group uncomfortable. Marion is a great cover for Dirk, as is AG off the bench.

No DIsrespect to Jimmys team, he has a very nice team.

But Madness has a foolish one, one that the only flaws I can try and point out is that its older less effective Marion, Gobert is at times a liability and the bench is weak on size, imo, Carter and Nash and McGrady is weak defensively

However, Gobert might be one of the best screen setters and is an elite rim runner and NAsh is a perfect PG to pair with that and I dont think that Jimmy has the offensive potentcy to take advantage of the wing defense.

Like both of these teams a lot - need to think on it a bit more.

Went with Jimmy in the end. The back-end depth was the difference for me.

To be fair some of those flaws are noteworthy particularly the bolded.

Ended up going with Jimmy. More balanced and deeper.

You guys act like VC and Tmac are complete pylons. They can stay in front of other wings. There’s no LeBron or real dominant wings in this draft other than maybe Kawhi, Dr. J.

Point of attack defense is more important here, and that’s really the issue. You don’t have someone who can cover for Nash.
