Madness Draft - R1 - Snakebites* vs wackbone

Post#1 » by durantbird » Mon Apr 7, 2025 3:01 pm

Here is a quick list of what you need in your writeup.

1. Specific years for each player on your team
2. Rotations and minutes for each player
3. Reasoning as to why your team will win and/or why people should vote for you.

Do not vote in this thread until both managers have submitted their writeups. Once the writeups are posted, I will add a poll, and the team with the most votes after 24 hours will advance. EACH MANAGER SHOULD ALSO VOTE FOR THEIR OWN TEAM IN THE POLL - IF YOU FAIL TO DO THIS, YOU ARE SIMPLY GIVING AWAY A VOTE. If the votes are tied, we will decide the matchup via AI vote.

You are not required to state or explain your vote, but you are free to comment in the thread if you want to.

If writeups aren't posted within 24 hours, we will vote solely based on the players they have drafted (and any rotations they have posted on their roster page).

PG: Jamal Murray 22-23 16.0 FGA
SG: Andre Iguodala 11-12 10.2 FGA
SF: Jayson Tatum 23-24 19.3 FGA
PF: Luol Deng 10-11 14.1 FGA
C: Joakim Noah 13-14 FGA

B: Jason Williams 09-10 5.2 FGA
B: JJ Redick 09-10 6.7 FGA
B: Channing Frye 16-17 7.0 FGA

Total: 88/88

Rotation:

Murray (36)/Williams (12)
Iguodala (25)/Redick (23)
Tatum (37)/Iggy (11)
Deng (37)/Frye (11)
Noah (36)/Frye (12)

Alrighty let’s do this. My team has All Star level players at every position in the starting lineup and a core group of strong two way level players. I’ve got playmaking at every position to go along with a healthy amount of shooting.

Both Tatum and Murray are proven playoff performers, and while my team doesn’t have a classic iconic superstar I’d argue our balance more than makes up for that.

In this matchup I’d argue we’ve got defense without a comparable sacrifice in offensive fit. I’d argue that Robertson, Rondo, and Dray are a dubious offensive fit with one another and that Rice isn’t as good an offensive anchor point as Tatum/Murray. Rice is also a poor defender without an obvious place to hide- Deng and Tatum can both punish him.

Overall I think I’ve got enough to carry the day.

Christian Laettner - 1997 - 13.8 FGA - All-Star, 35.2 3P% on 1.1 att, 18.1 ppg
Alvin Robertson - 1986 - 13.3 FGA - All-NBA 2nd, All-Star, DPOY
Rajon Rondo - 2012 - 10.8 FGA - All-NBA 3rd, All-Star, 8th in MVP Voting, All-Def 2nd
Al Horford - 2018 - 10.5 FGA - All-Star, 5th in DPOY, 42.9 3P% on 3.1 att
Draymond Green - 2016 - 10.1 FGA - All-NBA 2nd, All-Star, 2nd in DPOY, 38.8 3P% on 3.2 att
Jason Terry - 2005 - 9.3 FGA - 42.0 3P% on 3.1 att
Jud Buechler - 1996 - 3.3 FGA - 44.4 3P% on 1.2 att

Total: 88/88 FGA

Rotations:
Rajon Rondo (32) / Jason Terry (16)
Alvin Robertson (34) / Jason Terry (14)
Glen Rice (38) / Jud Buechler (10)
Draymond Green (36) / Christian Laettner (12)
Al Horford (32) / Christian Laettner (16)

Writeup:
Florida Cs matching up with each other here, how apropos. Good luck Snake!

Defensively we will start with Rondo on Murray, Rice on Iguodala, Robertson on Tatum, Draymond on Deng, and Horford on Noah.

Just a few notes:

1. Tatum is clearly the best player here, but I have 4 All-NBA players here in my own right, then 2 additional All-Stars in Laettner and Horford.
2. Terry and Laettner (18.1 ppg) off the bench are significantly more impactful than Redick and Frye.
3. Rondo/Alvin/Draymond/Horford is a tremendous defensive foundation.
4. Both teams have similar overall talent levels.
5. Horford will be drawing Noah out of the paint on a consistent basis.

I voted Snake because I think wack went slightly too heavy on role players, though Snake's approach wasn't far off. Part of me thinks I'm undervaluing Rice's capabilities as a lead scorer. Rightly or wrongly, my trust in Tatum over Rice is the differentiating factor here.
