Redeem Team Draft - CHAMPIONSHIP - Larry_Russell vs lilroddyb**

Post#1 » by durantbird » Thu Apr 24, 2025 6:35 pm

Here is a quick list of what you need in your writeup.

1. Specific years for each player on your team
2. Rotations and minutes for each player
3. Reasoning as to why your team will win and/or why people should vote for you.

Do not vote in this thread until both managers have submitted their writeups. Once the writeups are posted, I will add a poll, and the team with the most votes after 24 hours will advance. EACH MANAGER SHOULD ALSO VOTE FOR THEIR OWN TEAM IN THE POLL - IF YOU FAIL TO DO THIS, YOU ARE SIMPLY GIVING AWAY A VOTE. If the votes are tied, we will decide the matchup via AI vote.

You are not required to state or explain your vote, but you are free to comment in the thread if you want to.

If writeups aren't posted within 24 hours, we will vote solely based on the players they have drafted (and any rotations they have posted on their roster page).

Matchups:
Lets go straight up here.

Kyle Lowry on Garland - Lowry is a tenacious defender and this chosen season is aruably his absolute peak physically.

Danny Green on Jason Kidd - Green has the size, speed and defensive chops to stick on this version of Kidd who is more of a pass setter and 3pt corner shooter. While at time poke his hands in on Dirk and he certainly has the speed to recover back to Kidd on the wing.

Kawhi Leonard on Butler - All around monster defensively Kawhi can take anything that Jimmy attempts and just gobble that **** up and spit it out.

Pascal Siakam on Dirk - As good of a defender against Dirk as one can ask for. Great legnth and some awesome speed and athleticism to contest.

Bam on Allen - Bam is an awesome defender whose main task will be keeping allen off the boards.

Defense overall for my team is elite. And super versatile and switchable. There is no weak points to hunt out with multiple players capable of defending 1-4 and a few guys capable of defending 1-5.

Offense:
I have awesome synergy with 4 guys who won a championship together and adding Bam, a floor spacing versatile passing center and Odom off the bench.
Versatility is key here with clear roles defined.

Versatility:
My offense obviously is built around Kawhi, and it fits like a glove. Lowry is the primary playmaker with Leonard, Siakam, Bam, Odom and Wright all capable of being secondary playmakers.

I can bom away from outside:
Lowry 39% on 7 attempts, Green 45.5% on 5.5 attempts, Kawhi 37% on 5 attempts, Siakam 37% on 2.7 attempts, Bam 36% on 3 attempts, Wright 37% on 2 attempts, Odom 38% on 2 attempts. More of a modern high efficiency flowing offense. This team will force roddys team to play defense in space.

Attacking weak points:
Garland and Dirk are weaker defenders at this stage of their careers.
Garland is below average and he needs to try and cover a 21ppg player in Lowry or a much larger (6 inch taller) 45.5% 3pt shooter in Green. Either way Garland will give up points.

Dirk: Dirk is going to have to cover Siakam. Who was a force in the finals against the Warriors. He can outrun dirk, out athleticism dirk and can spread him out. Defensively Dirk has to defend out to the 3pt line and he has no chance of containing Siakam on the dribble drive. This forces the defense to shift and with everyone on the team being very good to awesome 3pt shooters as well as willing passers, this turns good looks into great looks into easy points.

TL/DR
Elite defense for me
Weak points to attack on Roddy
Synergy baby

C: Jarrett Allen 34 min / Rudy Gobert 14 min
Pf: Dirk Nowitzki 38min / Ausar Thompson 10 min
Sf: Jimmy Butler 38 min / Joe Ingles 10 min
Sg: Jason Kidd 24 min / Joe Ingles 24 min
Pg: Darius Garland 36 min / Jason Kidd 12 min

2011 Dirk Nowitzki 16.2
2022 Jimmy Butler 14.5
2009 Jason Kidd 7.6
2025 Jarrett Allen 7.8
2025 Darius Garland 15.7
2021 joe Ingles 8.4
2025 Ausar Thompson 7.8
2021 Rudy Gobert 8.8

tfga: 86.8

Good luck Larry

Offense
The offense is really versatile with two mvp type scorers ( Jimmy and Dirk ) with good spacing all around, elite playmakers/Passers that can play with other ball dominant players ( Kidd, Darius and Jimmy ), lob and pick and roll players in ( Jarrett Allen with 72ts% and Gobert ), slashers in Jimmy and Darius and finally Dirk at his peak spacing the floor for the others and

Defense

all my guys are elite defenders outside of Darius and Dirk

Defensive matchups

Jarrett/Gobert on Bam
Dirk/Ausar on Siakam
Jimmy butler/Ausar/Kidd on Kawhi
Darius Garland on Danny Green
Jason Kidd on Kyle Lowry

overall

Larry has a really nice raptors team that won championship and added Bam, better version of Kyle and some good depth. I think I added more to the 2011 championship team. I added better version of Kidd, Jimmy Butler instead of Shawn Marion, Darius Garland instead of Terry, and Jarrett Allen and Gobert instead of Tyson Chandler and some depth.

I decided to play Ingles more from the bench and I think spacing wise we are not that far from each other. I remember Danny Green and Siakam both struggling a bit from the threepoint line during the playoffs

In theory Dirk should lose every playoffs because of bad matchups but in real life he survived the heatles, OKC, Lakers and Trailblazers and some run and gun Suns teams back in the day

There are three clear best scorers in this matchup and I got two of them Dirk and Butler vs Kawhi

Just to add re: clear best scorers...

Butler in season chosen 21.4ppg no 3 pointer
Lowry in season chosen 21.2ppg with great 3 point %

I would like to hear thoughts as to how my team can beat peak lebron and kyrie, beat Jokic but lose to dirk/butler?

I thought roddy ran away with this draft, his starting lineup was arguably the best before getting to Gobert and peak Ingles off the bench. I think Raptors are worse with Bam than Gasol.

Yeah I know Fade liked Bam replacing Gasol in their lineup but I prefer the original starting five. And I don't think it's smart reducing a team to its leading duo, even though I think Dirk and Butler are a great leading duo and comfortably better than Kawhi Lowry

I'm not super high on 2015 Kyrie, and I think he's by far the weakest player of the four you named, so that comparison by itself isn't all that compelling to me.

I actually did vote for your team, mainly because I've never seen Butler have much success guarding Kawhi, but I can very much see the argument for roddy winning.
