2020s Draft - R1 - Dr Positivity* vs GeorgeMarcus

Post#1 » by durantbird » Wed Jul 23, 2025 12:44 pm

Here is a quick list of what you need in your writeup.

1. Specific years for each player on your team
2. Rotations and minutes for each player
3. Reasoning as to why your team will win and/or why people should vote for you.

Do not vote in this thread until both managers have submitted their writeups. Once the writeups are posted, I will add a poll, and the team with the most votes after 24 hours will advance. EACH MANAGER SHOULD ALSO VOTE FOR THEIR OWN TEAM IN THE POLL - IF YOU FAIL TO DO THIS, YOU ARE SIMPLY GIVING AWAY A VOTE. If the votes are tied, we will decide the matchup via AI vote.

You are not required to state or explain your vote, but you are free to comment in the thread if you want to.

If writeups aren't posted within 24 hours, we will vote solely based on the players they have drafted (and any rotations they have posted on their roster page).

PG: Chris Paul (2021: 12.6 FGA)
SF: Danny Green (2020: 7.0 FGA)
SF: Jimmy Butler (2020: 13.1 FGA)
PF: Karl-Anthony Towns (2024: 15.3 FGA)
C: Joel Embiid (2021: 17.6 FGA)

PG/SG: Fred VanVleet (2020: 14.3 FGA)
SG: Royce O'Neale (2020: 5.1 FGA)
C: Steven Adams (2025: 2.9 FGA = 3.0)

FGA: 88 / 88

PG: Chris Paul (38) / Fred VanVleet (10)
SG: Danny Green (26) / Fred VanVleet (22)
SF: Jimmy Butler (26) / Royce O'Neale (22)
PF: Karl-Anthony Towns (36) / Jimmy Butler (12)
C: Joel Embiid (38) / Steven Adams (10)

Defensive matchups: We're trying Jimmy on Giannis like 19 Kawhi, Towns on Bridges, Embiid on JJJ, Green on Booker, Paul on Garland

It's not the ideal matchup but I otherwise think we have the stronger team with big 3 of Paul, Butler and Embiid. JJJ having to play man to man on Embiid will hurt his help D a bit while Town stretches out GObert, and he is using the less proven 2020 Booker on a good team. A big difference is the depth with peak FVV, O'Neale and Adams vs Herb, Tate and Reed, with the latter two unproven in playoff rotation. He also lacks a backup PG. Even if Giannis goes off we have enough to beat him here.

Starting Lineup
23 Jaren Jackson Jr ~ 13.0 FGA ~ DPOY, AS, Blocks Leader
21 Giannis Antetokounmpo ~ 18.0 FGA ~ Finals MVP, NBA1, DEF1, MVP-4, DPOY-5
21 Mikal Bridges ~ 9.3 FGA
20 Devin Booker ~ 18.3 FGA ~ AS
25 Darius Garland ~ 15.7 FGA ~ AS, CPOY-6

Bench
23 Paul Reed ~ 3.0 FGA
25 Jae'Sean Tate ~ 2.8 --> 3.0 FGA
24 Herb Jones ~ 7.7 FGA ~ DEF1, DPOY-5

88/88 FGA

Rotation
JJJ (36) / Reed (8) / Giannis (4)
Giannis (36) / Tate (12)
Bridges (36) / Herb (12)
Booker (28) / Herb (20)
Garland (38) / Booker (10)

Write-up
Primary defensive assignments:
JJJ --> KAT
Giannis --> Embiid
Bridges/Herb --> Butler
Booker --> Green
Garland --> CP3

Our success is predicated on a relentlessly active defense. We're suited perfectly to counter the Embiid/KAT 2-headed dragon with Giannis/DPOY JJJ, while also having elite perimeter defenders to slow Butler and co. Sticking Booker on a lower-usage Green should help preserve energy on the other end of the floor.

Our offense starts with Giannis who will attack early and often. If the defense collapses, he's surrounded by 3pt threats to kick out to and make them pay. Garland/Booker/Mikal/JJJ/Herb are all chosen in their most efficient scoring seasons with 60+ TS% across the board. Booker is a luxury with his ability to create buckets for himself in a half court setting, kind of like a rich man's Middleton who Giannis had great success with.

GL Dr P and great team!

The Giannis matchup is pretty problematic here. Butler is plenty strong for his position but I think there's a clear gap between him and Kawhi, let alone Giannis.

Ftr I'm happy that he put Giannis on Embiid which will tire him out a bit.
