Let me tell y'all a quick story. I own about 15-20 varieties of Connect 4 at my house. Regular, Blasters, Shots, Spin, etc. When I was in college I would set up shop in the student union and play strangers for a couple hours and win like 28/30 times. Amongst my friends I'd win like 45/50 times. It's definitely the game I'm best at.
I am in a rec volleyball league at a local bar and played tonight for the first time in a month. In this league there's a challenge system wherein both teams can challenge once in the 3rd set, regardless of the call that was made. Before tonight I had only ever seen the challenge be whichever team has someone who can shotgun a beer the fastest wins the point.
In our 3rd set tonight the other team challenged a point wherein if we won the challenge we would have won the match, and if they won the set would be tied. One of my teammates faced one of their teammates in a bocce-like game wherein whomever rolled the volleyball closest to the beer can like 40 feet away would win the point. We lost the challenge and the game continued.
The bar has a giant Connect 4 board on their back patio, so after we lost this challenge I suggested to my team captain to let me play anyone on their team in Connect 4, insanely confident that I would win. Again, I have an insanely good record with this game, probably lifetime like 92-95% win rate. So lo and behold we lose a point that would otherwise be us losing the match, so we challenge and I get to play someone on their team in Connect 4. The guy I played against was very much hated by many on my team as he was talking **** throughout and being an absolute ****. If I win, which I absolutely should, the set remains tied and we continue. If I lose, we lose the set and the match.
I lost.
So IDGAF.
