Carmelo Anthony Draft - R1 - Laimbeer* vs MadNess

Post#1 » by durantbird » Thu Sep 25, 2025 7:25 am

Here is a quick list of what you need in your writeup.

1. Specific years for each player on your team
2. Rotations and minutes for each player
3. Reasoning as to why your team will win and/or why people should vote for you.

Do not vote in this thread until both managers have submitted their writeups. Once the writeups are posted, I will add a poll, and the team with the most votes after 24 hours will advance. EACH MANAGER SHOULD ALSO VOTE FOR THEIR OWN TEAM IN THE POLL - IF YOU FAIL TO DO THIS, YOU ARE SIMPLY GIVING AWAY A VOTE. If the votes are tied, we will decide the matchup via AI vote.

You are not required to state or explain your vote, but you are free to comment in the thread if you want to.

If writeups aren't posted within 24 hours, we will vote solely based on the players they have drafted (and any rotations they have posted on their roster page).

99’-00’ Jermaine O’Neal 3.2 FGA

Total: 87.9 | 88.0 FGA

In this one we saw 9 teams that would be pretty equal talent wise. We wanted to create something different and hard to defend.

We will push the pace and push it well.
Magic always makes his teammates better. Imagine telling Luka, look bro, you’re just gonna put the ball in the bucket, and I’m gonna feed you. Imagine telling Chuck, just run to the high post and I’ll get you the ball for easy dunks. Hey Pat, run rim to rim. You’ll get easy blocks and easy lay ins. That’s what we’ve established here. Good defense, followed with specific roles on offense. Would be hella fun to watch and it would win a ton of games.

VS. Laimbeer:

Ewing on Jokic. Chuck on DFS. Magic on Tatum. KCP on Ray. Luka (Caruso) on Porter.

Plan to slow Jokic and Tatum and let the rest play itself out. We have the perimeter defense to match up well here, especially with Ewing protecting the rim.

Offensively we will attack on fast breaks getting by Ray Ray, Tatum and getting the rim putting pressure on Jokic. Magic pick and roles in the half court with really any of Luka, Chuck or Ewing will be impossible to defend.

Magic makes his normal teammates better. Imagine what he can do with a dream team.

Nikola Jokić ( 2023 ) 14.8 - DEN MVP (1)
Dorian Finney-Smith ( 2025 ) 6.9 - LAL 41.1% on 5.0 3PA
Jayson Tatum ( 2024 ) 19.3 - 3rd MVP (6)
Ray Allen ( 2005 ) 19.2 - OKC MVP (9)
Terry Porter ( 1991 ) 11.7 - POR MVP (9)

Anthony Mason ( 1995 ) 6.6 - NYK 6MOY (1)
Dan Majerle ( 1998 ) 6.1 - B/AS 37.6% on 4.1 3PA
Brent Barry ( 2009 ) 3.1 - HOU 37.4% on 2.3 3PA

87.7

Nikola Jokić (38) / Anthony Mason (10)
Dorian Finney-Smith (36) / Anthony Mason (12)
Jayson Tatum (38) / Dan Majerle (10)
Ray Allen (38) / Dan Majerle (10)
Terry Porter (38) / Brent Barry (10)

Our offense around Jokic is pretty ridiculous. Spacing all around with Tatum, Allen, and Porter all capable off-ball players who can put pressure on a defense. Luka is a dreadful POA defender. Tatum is a pretty tall order for Magic as well.

Luka largely loses his value playing off-ball. He's not active or engaged in that role. Couple that with Barkley being off-peak along with being a poor fit with Ewing and the offense is far weaker than the names indicate. Jokic/Ewing, Tatum/Barkley, Allen/KCP, DFS/Luka, Porter/Magic is pretty solid.

The poor fit of their team along with the defensive shortcomings will be the difference.
Comments to rationalize bad contracts -
1) It's less than the MLE
2) He can be traded later
3) It's only __% of the cap
4) The cap is going up
5) It's only __ years
6) He's a good mentor/locker room guy
