Defensive assignments: I’ll have Christie on Harper, Pippen on Moncrief, and Irving on Crowder. Giannis will guard KD and Porzingis will be on Ewing.

Fade has a very talented team, but I think I’ve built a strong team of shooters around Giannis. Porzingis should do a good job of pulling Ewing away from the basket which negates his primary defensive purpose and will allow Giannis to cut to the rim with ease and pop out to any available open 3 point shooter if needed to, and Kyrie Irving is the perfect offensive juggernaut to take advantage of this. We will see similar synergy to that which Kyrie/LeBron had which led to them beating arguably the best team ever in the finals. I probably have the best perimeter defense of any team and that does wonders with a rim protector like Kristaps Porzingis

We built a filthy defensive team with the inside-outside combo of Ewing and KD leading the way offensively. KD, Crowder, and Harper keep the floor spread while Ewing in the post and Moncrief off the dribble apply consistent rim pressure. Harper, Moncrief, and McMillan is an insane defensive backcourt trio, and they can really ramp up the backcourt pressure knowing Ewing is waiting on the backline (with KD also providing supplementary rim protection.. Crowder, Jones, and KD are a great counter to opposing wings and forwards.

Matchup
- Assignments are Moncrief-Irving, Harper-Christie, KD-Pippen, Crowder-Giannis, Ewing-Porzingis. Jones also guards Giannis in his minutes off the bench.
- In terms of shooting around Giannis, Kyrie and Porzingis definitely fit this approach and will be our main concerns. However, Pippen and Christie are very unreliable shooters, giving KD and Harper some licence to slough off them and help on Giannis drives. Ewing is still in his athletic prime and should be able to get out to Porzingis when he pops, as well as taking away a lot of his inside-the-arc game.
- Giannis guarding KD sounds good in principle, but Giannis has never actually been at his best chasing around high-end wings in that manner. If we're arguing that Porzingis negates Ewing's defensive strengths, that definitely applies to Giannis who excels at being a roamer plugging gaps all over the court, and that's untenable if your primary assignment is KD.
- Porzingis is a very good rim protector but I think he struggles against Ewing's strength and physicality in the post.
- The benches are where I open up some separation here. Jackson is good but 18 minutes of Mike Muscala is just not viable at this level, and it's compounded by another 8 of Toscano-Anderson, while I have SMOY Jones and another elite backup in McMillan taking up most of my bench minutes.
