Dallas and Washington have a trade to announce:

Dallas gives: Eddy Curry, Sasha Vujacic, 2011 1st (LAL), 2011 2nd (POR), 2012 1st (POR)
Dallas gets: T.J. Ford
incoming: $8.5 million
outgoing: $16.751976 million

Washington gives: T.J. Ford
Washington gets: Eddy Curry, Sasha Vujacic, 2011 1st (LAL), 2011 2nd (POR), 2012 1st (POR)
incoming: $16.751976 million
outgoing: $8.5 million
$16.751976 million - $8.5 million = $8.251976 million
Washington is nearly $14 million below the cap so this works.

Dallas accepts. It's tough to give up three picks, but this trade lowers our payroll significantly, to the point that we are now almost below the luxury tax. The fact that Ford is the best player in this deal is an added bonus.

Phoenix Suns and Washington Wizards have a trade to announce.

Phoenix Trades:

PF/SF - Eduardo Najera - $3,000,000
PG - Petteri Koponen - $925,000
2012 NY 2nd

Washington Trades:

$1

The trade works because Washington are under the cap.

Phoenix does this trade to cut $4m in wages and $4m in tax. Koponen will be a great player but I already have 3 point guards and I would like to wish him well for the future.
There is no consolation prize. Winning is everything.

Washington confirms. We convert our cap space into picks.

Get a pick and a prospect for using our cap space on Najera.

The Washington Wizards waive Eddy Curry and Sasha Vujacic. They do not factor in our long term plans.

Dallas and Philadelphia have a trade to announce:

Dallas gives Renaldo Balkman and Julian Wright for nothing in return.

total salary: $4.533057 million
Philadelphia is far enough below the cap for this to work.

Dallas accepts. We hate giving up two prospects for nothing, but this trade gets us under the luxury tax, which is huge for us.

We like Wright and he is a solid piece to add, well worth the cap room given up for him.
