Re: GM-a-Team: RANKINGS THREAD

Finally finished the last 10...

1. NYK - Took a team that would never have the right stuff to win titles and made it into a team that is very defensive minded yet should still be able to score in Dantoni system. They have room to grow and add even more to this team due to low salary and trade bait. Could be scary in another year or two. Pretty impressive job IMO, great work!

2. PHX - Started with a few nice pieces and a bunch of meh. The RL team is teetering at the edge of playoffs and could go either way. 30 trades and a lucky lotto bounce later and the playoffs will now have to wait but the future could be quite bright indeed. This new team has some great young pieces that could develop into something special. Jordan is easily the biggest question mark in that regard and Irving may take a couple years to develop. Lucky lotto bounce and a couple steal trades mos def helped but another excellent job by T. IF all the players become what they can than this team will be right back in the playoffs in a year or two.

3. CHI - This team could very well win the title but will face some stiff competition just trying to get there. They seem like they could be even better on D than it's RL counterpart but I am not sure how the chemistry will pan out in comparison. Always a risk but could be very well worth it. The team is considerably older now so will be curious to see how player values hold up after a couple years. very impressive team for sure.

4. DAL - Not many trades but a couple downright thefts made a huge impact IMO. This team looks much more ready to compete than the RL version although the D will take a hit. The core of the team is getting up there but should have enough time to make a few more attempts. I am just not sure they will have what it takes to get over that hump. Very strong job with minimal trades which always gets an extra point from me.

5. LAL - Very difficult to GM this team as they are 2 time defending champs. The Triangle is the method of choice for Phil and the RL version is set up perfectly for this. This is a whole new squad other than Lamar so would take some time to get the hang of things. Overall I feel they lost a lot in the frontcourt as well as any semblance of D from the SF position. Team is better geared towards the future now but Nene is making a ton of cash and CP3 will be due for max money next season to boot. I could see this team winning the title if everyone was clicking but it will not be so easy.

6. MEM - Started the game with quite a few real nice assets and now has quite a few real nice assets. Bogut is mos def a defensive upgrade but come the last few minutes in the playoffs should be getting hacked a lot due to his terrible FT%. I think this team will be a bit better than the RL version but still not a threat.

7. ATL - Almost everything I said about CHI could be said about this Hawks team. They could have finished a bit higher if it were not for them hitting/passing $100mil 4 times. BI built a very well balanced squad with a much brighter future and it looks to be a Title contender but the C spot could hurt them in that quest. For a bit they looked really awful but the end product is mos def superior to RL. Good work!

8. UTA - Another team with minimal trades that came out better off. Trading D Will for Curry/Harden was huge considering what unfolded in RL. Don't think the team has what it takes to go all the way as they are still lacking a bit but mos def a nice GM job.

9. CLE - This team was in the dump when the game started and now has all the garbage gone or close to expiring while adding 2 great assets from the draft and through trades. Hardest job in the game and now the future is looking good as they are most likely still to raw to finish with many wins for another couple years which translates to more high picks.

10 ORL - Team was absolutely loaded with bad salaries and 1 exceptional trade piece. They most likely won't do much for a bit but IMO the RL Magic had no title chance either and could face Dwight leaving and being left with a pile of poop worse than CLE all while having insane salary to pay. Now they are loaded with youth and have financial flexibility. Tough to say how this will play out but fine work none the less.

11 MIA - and here we go again with the minimalist theme. Adding Dwight and Calderon should work out great. The depth is still pretty awful but MLE over the next couple season will have that fixed. SF situation is pretty iffy but all they really need there is a 3 shooter to make this team roll.

12 NOH - Right about the same level as the RL version so not a lot of title hopes. Pretty nice D but lacking on offense and will have to rely on Rondo to create magic. Not a bad job at all though considering CP3 could easily leave in 2012. Just not good enough when compared to what other teams to make a big splash.

13 DEN - I am reminded of the saying it takes 2 artists to do a painting, 1 to paint it and the 2nd to tell the 1st when to stop.. Started off great then took a nosedive with some questionable decisions. Still has nice assets to play with though so could easily turn things around.

14 OKC - Another case of too many trades. At one point the team was starting to look pretty beastly. Now it is looking very imbalanced and likely to be giving up a ton of points on any given night. Too much flash not enough substance, need more/better suited role players IMO. Sometimes in these games it is not easy to do that as many seem to see the big names 1st.

15 WAS - Not all that much to get excited about in terms of winning but if the youngsters develop nicely they could be looking towards playoffs with another move or 2.

16 - MIN - Too many trades that lost ground after gaining ground and a high price paid for Young to boot. This was one instance were less trades would have been better. There is some nice youth there but too many questions left to be answered.

17 - TOR Pretty imbalanced and not likely to win much any time soon. Will have to pray to the lotto Gods.

18 IND - $18mil for Zach = painful. Didn't get good enough to be a contender and not a lot of room for growth right now. Will need to work a bit down the road to get this team where it could be.

19 NJN - Smith was a nice pick up but just not enough in these games to make an impact from how the team started.

20. PHI - Too many trades that depleted the talent pool and left them in not so great a position for now. They should have a great shot at the top pick though.

A lot of people seem to be critical of my team because of Zach's contract when I wasn't the one who signed him to that deal.

I think they're implying that Zach's contract was painful, but so was losing him - it was a no win situation for you and we can sympathise.
There is no consolation prize. Winning is everything.

If you are going to turn in rankings past the time where they even count(deadline was midnight) you could at least put reasons for your decisions. :P

I just thought you were paying a lot for him when your team wasn't/isn't a top tier title contender IMO.

This was by far the smoothest game we've had. Great job TMAC (and all of the other teams).
