OFFICIAL SIGNUP THREAD - BaNT WITH A TWIST

Post#1 » by -Kees- » Tue Jun 21, 2011 9:02 pm

Hey everyone. This is the official signup thread for the BaNT with a Twist.

Basically, this is a game where you draft your own team, then face off other teams to see if you did the best. Other players of the game will vote and decide who wins your 'matchup'. If you win, you advance to the next round, if you lose, your out.

There will be 8 teams (8 GMs), and 12 rounds of picking.

Order will go:

Round 1: 1 - 2 - 3 - 4 - 5 - 6 - 7 - 8
Round 2: 8 - 7 - 6 - 5 - 4 - 3 - 2 - 1
Round 3: 8 - 7 - 6 - 5 - 4 - 3 - 2 - 1
Round 4: 1 - 2 - 3 - 4 - 5 - 6 - 7 - 8
Round 5: 1 - 2 - 3 - 4 - 5 - 6 - 7 - 8
Round 6: 8 - 7 - 6 - 5 - 4 - 3 - 2 - 1
Round 7: 8 - 7 - 6 - 5 - 4 - 3 - 2 - 1
Round 8: 1 - 2 - 3 - 4 - 5 - 6 - 7 - 8
Round 9: 1 - 2 - 3 - 4 - 5 - 6 - 7 - 8
Round 10: 8 - 7 - 6 - 5 - 4 - 3 - 2 - 1
Round 11: 8 - 7 - 6 - 5 - 4 - 3 - 2 - 1
Round 12: 1 - 2 - 3 - 4 - 5 - 6 - 7 - 8

Matchups will be:

1 V. 8
2 V. 7
3 V. 6
4 V. 5

Then the ones who advance will play others who advance.

The twist is that after the first 6 rounds of picking, the players that you can chose have to be bench players. This prevents us from having teams with All-Stars as 3rd stringers, and makes the game more interesting. It also allows teams to have a great 6th man (because of the 6 rounds, 5 are starters, 1 6th man).

To sign up:
- Post that you are interested. Please note that we are looking for people who stick around through the whole thing. (apx. a month long)
- Post which season you think we should have it in. Personally, I don't like doing all-time games, because the same players are always chosen, but you can vote for that. So like if you voted for 2009/2010 season, then we would use the stats and player talents from that year. Right now what I'm thinking is 3 round from 95/96, 3 rounds from 00/01, then 6 rounds of bench players from current times. But it's up to the players to decide if we want that or something else.
- Post if you have any other ideas for the game that you might have.

Thanks! Hopefully we can get enough interest soon!

I will signup as an example.

I'm interested in playing this game.

I think that we should do 3 round from the 95/96 season, 3 from the 00/01 season, then the last 6 from the current season as bench players.

Teams with early picks are going to dominate a standard snake draft.

Not sure I'm interested given the current rules, but I would definitely suggest current bench players. Knowledge is thin on bench players from the distant past.

Possibly interested, but would have to be the ABBA draft format, also with regards to bench players, it will likely be hard to remember.

How about the 2005/06 season?

i don't mind joining in but can we have just a single decade to choose from?

Both O Neal from past time and the current time are totally different type of beast.

What's the ABBA draft format?

As you see, I put the last 6 rounds from the current times for the bench players, because I too dont remember many bench players from the past, but I do in the now times.

Yeah, what is the ABBA draft style? Nevermind, Luke told me.

If we don't get many more players, I might set it down to just 8 people so that we can get it going faster. We have 5 right now.

I'm mainly referring to how the draft order is set and how the years are going to work. Round 1 95/96, Round 2 00/01, Rd 3 95/96 etc?

Beyond that, 16 teams is a long, long draft. And I frankly don't know if half of these guys would be active enough to accomplish it.

It's actually 3 rounds of one year, 3 rounds of another, then 6 rounds of bench only modern players.

But yeah, it sounds really messy because there is quite a bit of overlap between, for instance, 95-96 and 00-01.

I'm out for various reasons. Good luck, and if you need anything, just give me a holler.

Yeah thats why I posted on the OP that I'm open to changing the years.

I also might shrink it down to 8 teams to make it more reasonable...that sounds like a good idea.

Ok so far, for sure, we have:

Keeslinator
spree8
lukekarts
Devilanche
deNIEd
SamBone

Tentative:
Snakebites
CellarDoor

Ok first of all I've limited it to 8 teams, and if everyone that I've mentioned participates, we have 8.

I made it an ABBA style draft to eliminate that problem.

Which years should we do then? I somewhat agree with the overlapping thing...maybe if we went to like 90/91 and 05/06, that's 15 years difference. Still get the Bulls/Rockets/Jazz of the 90's, with some of the current stars in the 05/06. Then it would be the current bench players as well...draft would look like:

Round 1. 90/91 Players
Round 2. 90/91 Players
Round 3. 90/91 Players
Round 4. 05/06 Players
Round 5. 05/06 Players
Round 6. 05/06 Players
Round 7. Current Bench Players
Round 8. Current Bench Players
Round 9. Current Bench Players
Round 10. Current Bench Players
Round 11. Current Bench Players
Round 12. Current Bench Players

Is that a better game? Does everyone agree to that?

If there is room, I'd love to join! I don't know many players beyond the stars in the seasons you mentioned, but I think that'll be enough since we'll be drafting stars from then anyway. I'd like the seasons you mentioned for each portion of rounds you suggested, Kees.

Let me know if I can get in - I'll keep checking back.

no interest in playing but one glaring issue I see is doing 3 rounds of 1 year followed by 3 rounds of the next. That setup with the current ABBA order gives the team with the #1 slot the best player from both years of starters.

you should just allow both years you choose to be drafted at the same time over 6 rounds. That way talent gets spread around more evenly IMO.

and

have fun!
