OT: Which teams do you like and why?

I've talked with a few people about trying to get an off-topic discussion going here. You see a lot of OT threads being made in other small boards (IE team boards) so I was wondering why we hadn't started anything here. Maybe it's because we do a decent amount of talking on AIM and email and stuff, but idk, I hope this works, if not, I will just drop it

I guess my goals for these threads is just to know a bit more about the people we talk to every day, to make it a bit more of a community of sorts? Again, who knows if this will work or not, but I felt like trying it.


As for answering the question, I really follow 2 sports closely. Pro football and pro basketball.

My fav football team is the Eagles, has been since I knew what football was. I've always liked Ried (questioning that a bit this year, lol), and also liked McNabb. Eagles have always found a way to win games despite injuries and not having the greatest personnel.

My fav basketball team varies quite a bit. I started liking the Twolves in the KG era (grew up mostly in Minnesota, also lived in Toronto though). As soon as I actually knew some of the players and started watching the games closer, I became a Magic fan around 07/08. They had some awesome series with the Celtics those years, I always loved watching those playoff games. Anyways, recently, Otis has been particularly dumb and I gave up hope on them last year.

Right now my team is the Bucks. Jennings is playin out of his mind, and we are actually winning games! I don't know what led me to the Bucks, but the ball-moving offense and tight defense is fun to watch.

Anyways, I'd love for everyone to post here, comment, ect, just trying to get some other talk going.

I grew up in SF went to college in LA and now live in Sacramento. I love sports. I played three in HS and wrestled in college. I follow Football, Hockey, and Basketball

I grew up two blocks from an Ice Rink in SF so played ice hockey as a kid and started going to Sharks games when my fraternity brother became CJ Sharkee the mascot.

When I was in college at USC my uncle had season tickets to the Clippers so would watch when they played the Lakers or Warriors. When I moved back to SF started going to Warrior games and now go to Kings games. Im a warriorfan at heart. Joined realgm long time ago when my friends got me into fantasy

Grown up about 2 hours north of London, UK. Studied at Oxford Brookes University, now working as a Buyer for a fresh food manufacturer. I think I'm the only English guy on this board.

My main sport is football (soccer), been a big Chelsea fan since I was 8 or 9; don't get to see them often though as it ends up being a $150 round trip.

Always had a passing interest in basketball but it isn't on TV over here so until the internet enabled online streaming etc, I couldn't really pay much attention. Started to like Miami between when Wade was drafted and Shaq was acquired, and followed them ever since.

I used to race Karts in the British Championships (hence my user name luke 'karts'); I now compete in the Classic Sports Car Club Deutsche Marques series with my dad in a Porsche 944 - which is why you'll see less of me at weekends.

my favourite (hate that it asks me to spell check favourite) teams in order would be:
Detroit Red Wings - Steve Yzerman is the classiest pro alive.
Toronto Raptors - 16 years of suffering so far.
Minnesota Twins - best small ball team over the last ten years (AL).
Dallas Cowboys - been suffering since Troy left.

basketball is my favourite sport by far, too bad i had to grow up in Canada and didn't get to watch it much as a kid. but i always got to listen to the Bulls on the radio so naturally they were my fav team, that is until Mighty Mouse and his Raps beat Jordan's 72-10 Bulls. i was hooked; well Jurassic Park was huge then too...

i've been a member on here since 2007, but have been reading on RealGM since about 2001. it's a pretty awesome site to talk about ball.

as a side note, this GMAT game has helped me decide what i want to do as a second career. crunching numbers is fun.

When I lived in Toronto, I lived in the Aurora/Newmarket/King City area, I think a bit north of downtown? It was when I was younger, so I didn't have to remember cities or anything, because I didn't drive.

I had some of my good friends live in London, its a nice town for sure.


Yeah, my cousin (bness) told me about this game during a family gathering (Christmas or something), and ever since I knew stuff about basketball, I've wanted to be the GM of a team, it was like a dream come true (lol). I was the worst GM alive when I started (took Philly, finished with Roddy/Redick/Outlaw/Blatche/Kaman LOL), but through teaching I've gotten better.

For a while I didn't really pay attention to any other parts of the site, but now I'm on a ton of boards often, and follow the NBA like I never have before. This site is awesome, good group of people here.

Anyways, back on topic, I still live at home (for whoever doesn't know that lol) and my dad can get floor seats to any Timberwolves game, and now that they are actually fun to watch, its really fun to go. Ive been going for about 5 years, and I went to the Bulls/Wolves game in JAN and it was the loudest I've ever heard the Target Center when the Wolves went on a run. It was fun lol.

I grew up in Nebraska, and was mainly a football fan. In 97 I became a Vikings fan, then got really into it in 98, and became a huge Randy Moss fan(hence the username). As a kid I was a big Bulls fan, but didn't watch many games except for playoffs, I never really started to become a Wolves fan until my dad and I went to a Wolves game after we came up to Minny for a Vikings game. KG had a triple double on an espn game vs the Mavs(I think it was 03-04) and I was hooked.

I didn't really follow basketball that closely until we traded KG(mainly just boxscores since I didn't know much about online streams and didn't love in a state that had a basketball team). I moved to minnesota in 09 and have watched every wolves game since then, still a diehard fan and glad we finally have something to cheer for.

I don't really watch anything but Football and Basketball, and I'm a bandwagon Twins fan, I support them but usually don't really care unless they are playing well, then I'll watch a few games. I watch college basketball too, Kansas Jayhawks fan and then I'll still root for Nebraska.

I think this is about my 5th or 6th gm a team, I sucked my 1st game and had no idea what I was doing, but I've gotten a pretty good feel for it now. Idk if anyone else posts on this other site that I do, but I go by the same username on everything just so its easy to remember, lol. and....Todays my b-day, wooo.

I grew up in Brooklyn, mostly watching baseball. And I'm old enough to count the amazing year in which the Mets and Knicks both won championships as a high point of my childhood. Didn't really watch much basketball for a long time, then got hooked again about five years ago. By then I was living in Philadelphia, a city in which the Sixers come in a very distant fourth in fan interest and appreciation, after the Phillies, Eagles, and Flyers. Didn't really have a team until i fell for OKC three years ago, out of combined admiration for Kevin Durant and Sam Presti, and have followed the Thunder ever since. (Although I do have to hold my nose a little, since they were stolen from Seattle by a guy who lied to everybody and fooled nobody.) And now, suddenly, the Sixers are worth watching too. My wife got us tickets for the Sixers-Thunder game on February 29th, and it should be great.

Minnesota born-and-raised, except for being born in North Dakota and living there til I was three. Lived in small town in SW Minnesota until I was 16, heading into junior yr of high school. Moved to small town in NW Minnesota, where my folks still live. After one yr of college at NDSU in Fargo, ND, I transferred to a college in SW Minnesota, where I graduated last spring. After moving home for the summer, I decided to get out on my own so I moved back to the town of my alma mater.

Never got much big into sports until about the age of 10. Have always been loyal to the local Minnesota teams (except not a hockey fan). I started casually following the Timberwolves at that time, when Garnett and Marbury were leading the team. My interest stayed low until about 2003, which is the earliest I remember checking mock draft sites. In the summer of 2005, right around draft time, I remember I was looking for sme mock drafts, and I stumbled upon the RGM forums. Seven years later, and I haven't left yet. Finally made it to my first Timberwolves game last year vs Denver, just 6 games before the Carmelo Anthony trade.

Grew up in Pasadena, now live abroad. I always loved playing ball, but started getting into the NBA casually around 2005/2006 (didn't really know what was what, just liked watching).

I became a Heat fan because Shaq was one of the only names I knew back then. I think I only knew Kobe, Yao, Shaq, LeBron, and Michael Jordan then lol. Then I started to really like D-Wade as I watched the Heat a lot because fast guards were cool, and I watched quite a few Heat playoff game reruns.

I have been a hardcore NBA fan since probably around 2007/2008-ish, when I started learning about conferences, playoff series formats, and the draft.

Other teama I really enjoyed were the Tmac/Yao Houston Rockets and the Melo Denver Nuggets.

Which town in MN did/do you live? My grandparents live in southern MN, I know a few towns down there.

Oh interesting. My grandparents live in Fairmont, MN, about an hour south of Mankato (also where my mom and uncles grew up). It looks like you live/lived more west, where my family lived directly south of the cities, but still interesting.
