#45 - Hornets and Lakers agre to a deal (KOBE IS BACK!)

Hornets outgoing:

Linas Kleiza: $4,605,000
Total salaries: $4,605,000

Hornets incoming:

Luke Walton: $5,680,000
Memphis 2013 2nd rd pick
Total salaries: $5,680,000

Lakers outgoing:

Luke Walton: $5,680,000
Memphis 2013 2nd rd pick
Total salaries: $5,680,000

Lakers incoming:

Linas Kleiza: $4,605,000
Total salaries: $4,605,000

Hornets accept. We trade for a guy that expires a year sooner and on top of that, we get a draft pick out of it. Why not? Luke's 'love for the boys' and doll face will do wonders as the teams leading Honeybee dancer! Plus his high bball I.Q. and experience as a multiple champion/many years 'playing catcher' to Kobe will do wonders for our young guys confidence..or whenever they need to just 'release some tension'.

Chicago and Washington have agreed to a sign and trade with Nick Young
To Chicago:
NIck Young($8,000,000)
Jan Vesley($3.160,800)
2012 2nd Round Pick
2013 1st Round Pick
Total: $11,160,800

To Washington:
Luol Deng($12,325,000)
Taj Gibson($1,195,690)
Total: $13,520,690

Washington has the cap space to absorb the difference.

This is a great trade for the Bulls. I get a great shooting guard in Young and Vesley replaces the older and more expensive Deng, allowing Deng to start. Not only that, I obtain some valuable picks, adding to my already big collection.

Accept. We think Wall, Thornton, Deng, Jefferson, Mcgee, Gibson is a great foundation to build upon going forward. Another step taken in building a real contender.

Trade #47
RAPTORS, THUNDER & PISTONS IN 3 WAY DEAL
Toronto. OKC and Detroit have agreed to a trade.

TOR Out: Andrea Bargnani and Ian Mahinmi to Detroit in exchange for
TOR In: Charlie Villanueva, Ben Wallace and OKC's 2014 1st Round Pick - Unprotected.
Toronto also gets the rights to the best two 2012 1st round picks among Detroit, Toronto & Portland (TOR owns theirs & PDXs). The worst goes to the Pistons.

DET Out: Charlie Villanueva, Ben Wallace (DET 1st-above); Greg Monroe & Bargnani: for
DET In: David Lee & Ian Mahinmi. DET worst of '12 1sts (DET, TOR & PDX) & OKC 2014 2nd.

OKC Out: David Lee & 2014 1st Round Pick (to TOR); 2014 2nd (to DET) both unprotected: for
OKC In: Greg Monroe & Andrea Bargnani

Salaries:
Toronto: Barg & Mahinmi ($10.2M Out); CV & B Wallace ($ 9.75M In)
Detroit: Above & Separate move: Bargs & G Monroe (12.250M Out); D Lee ($11.6 In)
OKC: D Lee ($11.6M Out); Bargs & Monroe ($12.250M In). All moves within 125% rule and all teams started under the Salary Cap.

With the acquisition of Anderson Varejao, Detroit can pair David Lee's defensive deficiencies in - but rebounding talents with AV and not suffer on help defense and will have a much improved offensive team than with Greg Monroe. Mahinmi is a great Post prospect replacing Big Bens defensive presence on tehe second unit.

Raptors agree with a slight addendum. Toronto also sends SG Wayne Ellington ($1,154,040), SF Lazar Hayward ($1,097,520), and 2012 2nd RND (MIA) to Oklahoma City. Salaries work as follows:

OKC: Salaries In ($9,250,000 + $3,007,920 + $1,154,040 + $1,097,520) = $14,509,480
$14,509,480 is less than $14,600,000 (125%+$100k of David Lee's S11,600,000 salary)

TOR: Salaries in ($7,540,000 + $2,246,400) = $9,786,400
$9,786,400 is less than the outgoing salary of $12,449,467

DET: Salaries in ($11,600,000 + $947,907) = $12,547,907
$12,547,907 is less than outgoing salary of $12,794,320

This is a great deal for us as Bargnani was no longer a fit in our system. Ben Wallace will provide some veteran leadership off the bench.

It sucks losing a 20/12 big man in D Lee but we were desperate to add depth. We did just that although a couple of the pieces are not really wanted here. They can be used as practice fodder so do serve a bit I guess.

OKC agrees to the trade and addendum(it only concerns TOR and OKC anyway)

D.J Augustin ($3,236,470)

Phoenix accepts. Gortat was great, but he's already 26 and will want to get paid in a couple years. Biyombo is younger, cheaper, and we believe has potential to be a Ben Wallace type defensive force. Augustin stepped it up last year, and can hopefully become our future PG.

NOTE;:THIS IS TRADE #42

Charlotte accepts. It's a little scary to acquire Marcin Gortat and realize that he's immediately my best player, but that's the way it is. I think Bayombo's ceiling is unlikely to be better than Gortat, and his floor is bust. And I like Markieff Morris.

LAL accept. Walton leaving is almost always a good thing. Sure we take on a year more salary, but we save now which is key. Kleiza actually does a little on the court (11/5/1 this year) and can be a rotational guy for us. Walton shouldn't even be in basketball, and Kleiza gives us a guy who can play pretty decent.

Trade # 48

The Pacers and the Jazz have agreed to a deal:

Jazz receives:
Tyler Hansborough (2,138,040)
George Hill (1,390,906)
Indiana's 2012 1st rounder (top 5 protected)
= 3,528.946

Pacers receives:
Kirk Hinrich (8,100,000)
Paul Millsap (8,103,435)
=16,203,435

Utah accepts. We get 2 really promising young players still on their rookie contracts and another draft pick that could perhaps be solid. We also gained some more cap space which might help us next year. Good dealings Indy.

Indiana accepts, our cap is just under $38 million. Kirk and Millsap are both direct upgrades and Paul is the same age as Tyler. I was never much of a fan of George Hill, so I like the return that I get.

Trade #49

The Clippers and Pacers have agreed upon a deal.

The Clippers Receive:
PG Kirk Hinrich ($8,100,000)

The Pacers Receive:
PG Eric Bledsoe ($1,596,360)
SG Randy Foye ($4,250,000)
PF Craig Smith ($3,000,000)
Total Salary: $8,846,360

$8,100,000 x 1.25 +.1 = $10,225,000

Clippers accept.

We get the starting point guard that we've been looking for. We've long been a fan of Kirk Hinrich's game, and we believe he will be an excellent fit next to Thabo Sefolosha and Danny Granger on the wing. We moved a little bit of cap flexibility and a young guy we liked, but didn't love to get an upgrade at point.

Indiana accepts. I like Kirk, but he really didn't fit with the direction of my team. Bledsoe is a player with good potential and the rest of the spare pieces won't hurt my cap situation. I am also very happy that I was able to turn Tyler Hansbrough, George Hill and a middling first round pick into Eric Bledsoe and Paul Millsap.

Trade #50

The Clippers, Raptors, and Jazz have agreed to a three team deal.

Clippers Receive:
SG Raja Bell ($3,240,000)
C Ben Wallace ($2,246,400)
2012 2nd Round Pick (from Toronto)
2013 2nd Round Pick (from Utah)
2014 2nd Round Pick (from Toronto)

Jazz Receive:
Nothing

Raptors Receive:
PG Mo Williams ($8,500,000)

Raptors are under the cap, so this creates a TPE for $3,013,600 for the Clippers as well.

The Clippers weren't thrilled with the value here, but the fit is what we were aiming for here. Raja Bell fits in well with Thabo Sefolosha in our SG rotation, and Ben Wallace gives us the flexibility to deal Chris Kaman. His veteran presence will help out Chris Kaman as well.

Confirmed. We rid ourselves of Bell's contract for only a 2013 2nd round pick? An easy yes from Utah. Nice dealing all.

Trade #51

Minnesota trades Ricky Rubio, Anthony Randolph to UTA for Tyler Hansbrough, George Hill

MIN Outgoing/UTA Incoming: $6,285,871 (UTA has the capspace)
UTA Outgoing/MIN Incoming: $3,678,533

We did not plan to trade Rubio in this game. However, we also did not expect to acquire Wade. Rubio and Wade don't fit the greatest, so we needed to trade Rubio for someone who did. George Hill will provide solid defense and a reliable 3-point stroke that allows him to play off of Wade. While we may have lost some potential at the point, we gain an upgrade at PF. Psycho T will bring Target Center some of what was lost with the trade of Kevin Love.

Overall we are sacrificing some potential to hopefully build a contending team around Dwyane Wade

Confirmed. While we downgrade a bit going from Randolph to Hansbrough we feel that we found our franchise PG going forward. Ricky is young (20) and we think that he can be a great fit with our young team going forward.

Atlanta Trades

Marvin Williams - $8,050,000

Dallas Trades

Shawn Marion - $7,725,932

Why for Atlanta? We're looking to contend, and Marion just won a ring as arguably the 2nd best player in a Finals series. Yeah he's old, and yeah he doesn't bring it every night, but his versatility at either forward spot is exactly what I need.

I accept. Marion is a girl's name.

Trade #52

Cleveland Cavaliers and Detroit Pistons have agreed to a trade:

Cavs trade/Pistons receive:

Jose Calderon - 9 780 992
Rip Hamilton - 12 500 000

total = 22 280 992

Pistons trade/Cavs receive:

Brandon Roy - 15 032 144
Will Bynum - 3 250 000
Luke Babbitt - 1 768 800
DET 2012 2nd(unprotected)
DET 2014 1st(unprotected)

total = 20 050 944
--> Although we accept Roy's monster contract, we get a competent backup PG in Will Bynum, and 3 young guys who we really like (Babbitt+2 picks). rationale behind accepting Roy's contract is its covered by insurance if Roy is injured(so D. Gilbert won't pay much) and we don't need cap space, so as long as we are below the luxury tax line(which we are), we're fine taking on Roy's contract. Plus, by the time Roy's contract expires, Irving - Valanciunas - Thompson will be due for an extension so its a perfect situation. (we have a huge expiring contract when we won't have any cap space).. Nice dealing..

Trade #52 Confirmation

The Detroit Pistons confirm the Cleveland Trade as we reunite a long standing allstart Piston with a new core group and substantially upgrade our PG postion. Calderon will add the offensive spark to the 2nd unit and completes a Guard rotation of Sessions, Stuckey & RIP. These guys will be a team strength with Kyle Singler developing to fill RIPs role in a couple of years.

With Brandon's health issues it was too big of a gamble to retain his contract. We wish him well, but felt this move definately strengthen our team.
