I even texted JP but his time zone is 3 hours different so he didn't get it in time

Damn that sucks. In future I'd suggest posting your pick on the spreadsheet when that happens - it's getting checked and updated all the time.

Even outside of Hornacek, there are still plenty of good options at SG.

Assuming one views Horford/Shaq as an optimal pair.

What's wrong with it?

It's not a bad fit by any means, but perhaps a little slow footed and not true to the Shaq + 4 perimeter players archetype

I was banking on one of Sikma/KP dropping to my last pick if I was able to snag Price. Seeing as KP got taken I'm not as confident it would have worked out that way. Was Sikma on anyone else's radar?

We’ve never seen Horford successfully paired with a high volume low post player. Our only frame of reference is Embiid- and that didn’t work out.

I’d have taken White and waited on a swing who can shoot. There’s one I have in mind.

LR will be fine.

Horford has some of the best lateral movement of any natural big man you're likely to pick in these games. The Lakers were trying to go at him yesterday and failed constantly, and that's 7 years after the season Larry is using. I wouldn't consider it slow-footed at all, at least not on Horford's end.

I don't consider that to be a very compelling frame of reference, considering it was one season with a very different player from Shaq.

My concern with picking a swing would be trying to guard the likes of Giannis, AD, KG, Malone etc., which is certainly not an issue with Horford.

Slow-footed was poor phrasing- I agree the defense is perfectly fine in that regard. Similar to the Shaq/Grant pairing. It's more so on offense where Horford operates more slowly and didn't exactly mesh with a scoring big like Joel because they often occupied the same spaces. Then again the Horford/Embiid problem was exacerbated greatly by having a PG who literally wasn't guarded on the perimeter

I think this is where the difference between Shaq and Embiid comes in though. Shaq was always parking his ass 10 feet and in, and he would battle across the entire lane if he had to in order to establish good post position. He'd also try to spin off his man to catch lobs. Embiid is operating more in that in-between area and isn't as active off ball.

With all that said, Horford is certainly better offensively at the 5, but I also feel like he'd work a lot better with a more traditional low-post player than someone like Embiid.

Considered White as well but he’d be a luxury for me.

Imo, horf is perfect. I have seen Sheed be viewed favorably and Al is better, imo.

A fair point.

It’s why I went for Mason and restructured my front court rotation. Felt that every option at the 4 alongside Gobert gave me a weakness.

I was hoping to pair White with Mason. :banghead:

Knew I wanted Russ once I decided to go Tatum in R2

Just think the fit makes a lot of sense
