I don't see playoff performance mentioned much. McGrady and Harden aren't typically written off as guys who couldn't win when it counted. Chris Paul is still coveted in these. People will throw it in if a player was exceptionally bad or good in the playoffs, but it's rare.

I've always thought a season was more than enough of a sample size. Draymond was highly valued in these until the notion of considering career three point shooting as opposed to the season caught on, and he plummeted. Did teams respect him more as a three point shooter in 2016 than other seasons? I honestly can't recall, but I'd be curious. Also, he's called a streaky shooter, but are there any stats for that type of thing?
Comments to rationalize bad contracts -
1) It's less than the MLE
2) He can be traded later
3) It's only __% of the cap
4) The cap is going up
5) It's only __ years
6) He's a good mentor/locker room guy

If 2016 was available for Draymond for instance: are we assuming he hits threes actually at that rate?

Draymond attempted 258 3's in the regular season and 104 in the post-season. He was streaky with 10/23 post-season games hitting 0 3's (0/29 in those 10 games from deep).

I assume over the course of a series he will hit 3's at that clip.

So when we choose a season, it's not just regular season stats that are considered, but also post-season? For instance those who are prone to choking in high pressure situations? McGrady never advancing in playoffs as the lead player, despite being very clutch in the regular season. Etc.

Also when you say "at that clip" which clip do you mean? The clip he has demonstrated over the course of his career, in a greater variety of scenarios, that he is likely to contribute? Or the single year contribution, even if at odds with career?

Wes Unseld is a great pick. He isn't a rim protector so not a fit with Dirk but his passing and post-defense is phenomenal.

It's subjective, but I preferred VanVleet over all the points after Kidd, with the possible exception of DJ. Surprised he made it back.

DJ and Gus Williams have title seasons both better than FVV for sure but it's FGA and fit dependent

You're telling me. Multiple teams doubled up on PF in the first 5 rounds, which is pretty unheard of usually

My guess is for proven ability to shoot from deep and play off ball. Lots of great point guards with terrible 3P shooting (according to today's standards)

Yes, and defense. No others in that run provided both.

Was wondering when Posey would get picked. He is usually in the same tier as guys like Battier/Bowen/Danny Green etc, surprised to see him taken so much later than them this go around
