And if he wasn't picked, he at least crossed some minds as a valid option. I see some other guys at the All NBA category who could've been picked, for example several guards who are better than some MVP guards.
My pick was partially motivated by a desire to prove a point.
Also my team looks and feels a lot like the championship Pistons, and I like that.
I guess your choice was between him and Julius Erving. Erving is better in a vacuum, but I like your team equally in both cases.
I considered so many other options throughout the course of the draft. After I took JJJ the main idea I was eventually building towards was Charles Barkley- JJJ was the ranged rim protector I needed with him and I figured nobody else was going for him.
What swayed me was that I just didn't care for the small forwards available to go with that group- I had similar pitfalls with a possible Bob McAdoo run. I'd have been using Tayshaun Prince or Jaden McDaniels, and neither were reliable enough shooters for my liking.
Then I landed KAT and was considering Dr J with a pair of shooting big men. The synergy didn't quite feel like it was there though. Then I landed Ben Wallace. At that point I was still going back and fourth between PG and Erving, but I couldn't resist the appeal of a team that felt so 2000s Pistons-
Clutch star point guard- Erving (Billups)
Reliable scoring shooting guard- Ginobili (Rip)
Do it all small forward- PG (Prince)- okay, this one is in hyperdrive
Ranged big men- JJJ/KAT (Rasheed, Okur)
Ben Wallace
Defensive backup guard- Ron Harper (Lindsey Hunter)
