Smart. Thanks, dcash4.
I'll make a "look, over here" thread tomorrow morning, and hopefully sometime tomorrow, I'll have enough good ideas to start he 1st round.

I know, I know.
My internet is down at home, and I'm not sure if I'll even be able to get the assignments out at work today. Sorry for the delay everyone, but my internet provider has no clue why my internet is not working.

You do realize that for every one of your trade tourneys I have been part of, I have recieved a scenario to shed salary for NYK for 2010....just saying....you're 3 for 3.

I didn't mean to do that. Well, I hope the other participants don't have a problem with it. If so, I can re-assign it...

NIce...
So I get the idea of having the U2BT part, but if the goal is to upgrade your team, you have to give talent to get talent right?
I'm referring to Haslem and not Chalmers by the way (not trading him)

Re: TT '09 - 1st-Round Assignments Are Finally Out!
I just wanted to point something out (you may already realize this) that there is bound to be some overlap between the different assignments you have given out. For example, some of the "trade Boozer" ones may end up looking similar to the "improve Chicago" or "improve Miami" deals. I hope that won't be ground for penalization, as there are only so many teams that work as trade partners in certain scenarios.
Also, it's going to be really tough to be completely original while maintaining feasibility, as there have been hundreds of trade threads on many of the aforementioned topics.
I also agree with KiDdFrESh in that some of the U2BT players might need to be moved in order to create a deal fair for both sides (Haslem being a prime example), and that the inclusion of those players shouldn't be automatically marked down.
My 2 cents. I'll get to work on my deal soon.

Re: TT '09 - 1st-Round Assignments Are Finally Out!
You make plenty of good points. And yes, I realize the parallels that may occur in some assignments.
On the U2BT issue, I would exercise discretion in their inclusion in trades, but by no means are they prohibited. With the Haslem issue, the Heat aren't going to send future picks along with a fan favorite for a better one-year rental like Boozer or Camby. They need "keeper value" in return, but they are EXTREMELY 2010-conscious. The player would just about have to be as good as the Heat are hoping to land in FA next summer. It'd be VERY difficult IMO to get a player with only Haslem/Cook/1st, who is better enough than Udonis to warrant absorbing post-2010 salary. You could add Beasley and/or JO to the equation, but not many teams are interested in bringing in two/three PFs at a time. Feel free to disagree, but I think that Haslem is the least likely of Miami's bigmen to be traded, IF they make a trade to win now. Beasley will be the bait, and JO will be the filler.
Keep in mind, every judge will have their own slightly different opinion on this, but for me, a trade would only be "automatically marked down" if it included a player that has been deemed by the organization as off-limits.

ASSIGNMENT # 3: legacyinthemakin89c (5) vs. N.O.R.E. (12)
Rearrange the Warriors’ Payroll
Off-Limits: Randolph
U2BT: Ellis/Curry/Morrow/Turiaf/Biedrins
Objectives: Shed long-term salary, add a 3rd-string C. You may add to their current cap number.
Warriors Trade: B.Wright, S-Jax, Maggette, Law, George, Claxton, $3 million
Receive: NYK 2010 1st (top 3 protected), AK, Peja, Fesenko, D.Brown
Biedrins/Turiaf/Fesenko
A.Randolph/AK
Azubuike/Peja/AK
Morrow/D.Brown/FA
Monta/S.Curry/FA
The Warriors dump their non future core long-term deals and gain two huge 2011 expirings and a valuable 1st from the Jazz. They get their 3rd string C to develop off the bench also. They do take a tonne of money on in the short-term, but it clarifies roles for the younger players and at least gives them a plan to stick to.
Hornets Trade: Peja, $3 million, D.Brown, lotto protected 1st
Receive: S-Jax, A. Law, Speedy
Okafor/H.Armstrong
D.West/Diogu
Posey/J.Wright
S-Jax/M.Thornton/AD
CP3/
Jazz Trade: AK, 2010 Knicks 1st, Fesenko
Receive: Maggette, B. Wright, D.George, sizeable TE, $3 million x2 = $6 million, lotto protected Hornets 1st
Okur/Koufos
Millsap/B.Wright
Maggette/Korver
R.Brewer/CJ Miles
D.Williams/Maynor/Price
The Jazz cut considerable amounts of salary and open up the option of swapping Boozer for a large TE (likely in a 3- way involving the Bulls or Heat and a team under the cap.
The deal is huge and a lot of pieces are used, but I think it fits the general direction of each team. The Hornets are still very conscious of getting under the luxury tax, and this move does this for them while upgrading talent. The Jazz gain the flexibility to deal Boozer for long-term assets by adding B. Wright to back up Millsap and a solid 3rd scorer in Maggette.
The Warriors hand the team over to the young studs while having 2 potentially very nice lotto picks (their own and the Knicks) and 2011 ECs to be used in a package to acquire a major star via a S&T in 2010. Even if it doesn't happen, they develop their young talent while getting a lot of flexibility.

ASSIGNMENT # 6: Sterncohen (6) vs. mhd (11)
Rearrange the Hornets’ Payroll
Off-Limits: Paul/West
U2BT: Collison/Thornton/Wright/Armstrong
Objectives: Lower their current cap number, upgrade the SG/SF, add a veteran backup C. You may add long-term salary.
Tough assignment - three things to accomplish, everybody of value on the roster off limits. Here's a very unsexy but I think doable attempt:
New Orleans :
IN: Francisco Garcia ($5.80M), Dan Gadzuric ($6.75M), 2010 and 2011 Milwaukee 2nd's, $2M cash from Milwaukee - total $12.55M in salaries, partially offset by the $2M cash
OUT: Morris Peterson ($5.99M), Antonio Daniels ($6.60M), Devin Brown ($1.11M) - total $13.70M
Net savings this year = $4.3M ($1.15M difference in salaries x2 (luxury tax) = $2.30M, +$2M cash)
Why: Hornets take on future salary to achieve all three objectives set out above. (1) They save money. (2) They improve the wing rotation with Garcia, who is not only an upgrade from Peterson but is also probably better than Peja at this point. He either starts at SG or plays major minutes behind Peja. (3) At center, they acquire Gadzuric - overpaid but a decent backup, and actually likely to be the second-stringer, since he's better than Armstrong (last year's PER: Gadz 12.2, Armstrong 10.7). (4) And, as a bonus, they also pick up a couple of future second rounders (likely to be high, given that they're coming from Milwaukee).
Okafor / Gadzuric
West / Diogu
Posey / J. Wright
Garcia / Stojakovic or vice versa
Paul / Collison
Milwaukee
IN: Antonio Daniels ($6.60M)
OUT: Dan Gadzuric ($6.75M), 2010 and 2011 2nd round picks, $2M cash
Why: Money money money. They save $7.5M next year by replacing Gadzuric with the expiring contract of Daniels; they save more than $5.5M all told after sending out the cash. And if a late first round pick is worth $3M, two future second rounders are surely worth $5.5M. (No, they don't need another PG, but they don't need another C either, with Bogut, Thomas, and Elson. And money matters a lot more to the Bucks right now than who their third-stringers are.)
Sacramento
IN: Morris Peterson ($5.99M), Devin Brown ($1.11M) - total $7.10M
OUT: Francisco Garcia ($5.80M)
Why: Money money money. They take on an extra $1.3M this year and an extra $900,000 next year - and then they save $11.9M in the two following season. They're overloaded with long contracts and need to start to get out from under them, and this is a big step in the right direction. Peterson is done, but with Nocioni, Casspi, and Donte Greene at SF, Martin at SG, and Evans able to play SG as well, Garcia is no longer worth all that money to them.

ASSIGNMENT # 3: legacyinthemakin89c (5) vs. N.O.R.E. (12)
Rearrange the Warriors’ Payroll
Off-Limits: Randolph
U2BT: Ellis/Curry/Morrow/Turiaf/Biedrins
Objectives: Shed long-term salary, add a 3rd-string C. You may add to their current cap number.
*Note, this trade has to happen after August 25th so Speedy Claxton can be traded with other players.
Warriors Trade:
Stephen Jackson
Speedy Claxton
Warriors own 2010 and 2012 Second round picks
Warriors Receive:
Nazr Mohammed
Julian Wright
Morris Peterson
Charlotte Trades:
Nazr Mohammed
Charlotte Receives:
Speedy Claxton
Devin Brown
Warriors 2010 and 2012 Second round picks
New Orleans Trades:
Julian Wright
Morris Peterson
New Orleans Receives:
Stephen Jackson
Why for the Warriors:
They cut a huge amount of long term salary while getting a young prospect to add to their young core and a big man who can help balance out their roster. This opens up a huge amount of playing time for their young guys.
Warriors Depth Chart after Trade:
Ellis/Curry/Law
Morrow/Azubuike/Peterson
Randolph/Maggette/Wright/George
Turiaf/Wright
Biedrins/Nazr
Why for Charlotte:
Between Chandler, Diop and Ajinca, playing Nazr really doesn't do anything for their organization. I realize they are trading big for small here, but thats why I included the two picks. They are basically trading a two year contract for two one year contracts. Considering all the rumors about the franchise being for sale, this helps that without really hurting they're chances to compete for the playoffs.
Charlotte Depth Chart after Trade:
Augustine/Felton?/Claxton
Bell/Henderson
Wallace/Brown
Diaw/Radmanovic
Chandler/Diop/Ajinca
Why for New Orleans:
They want to compete now and Jackson is a great fit next to Paul. He is a very good defender, can stretch the defense with his shooting and brings hungry vet to a team looking to contend. Any questions about Jackson's maturity and lockeroom presence should be dismissed because I think he's proven himself in Golden State to not be the same guy who jumped into the stands when he was with Indy.
New Orleans Depth Chart after Trade:
Paul/Collison
Jackson/Daniels
Peja/Posey
West/Diogu
Okafor/Armstrong

ASSIGNMENT # 2: ws26 (8) vs. mikero (9)
Shed the Nets’ ’10 Salary
Off-Limits: Harris/Lopez
U2BT: Lee/T. Williams/Jianlian
Objectives: Move Keyon Dooling and/or Eduardo Najera for expirings and/or youth assets.
Nets get: Antonio Daniels, Nathan Jawai, future 2nd rounder
Nets trade: Eduardo Najera, Keyon Dooling
Hornets get: Kris Humphries, Keyon Dooling, Greg Buckner
Hornets trade: Antonio Daniels, Julian Wright, Hilton Armstrong
Mavs get: Eduardo Najera, Julian Wright, Hilton Armstrong
Mavs trade: Kris Humphries, Nathan Jawai, Greg Buckner, future 2nd rounder
Note: This trade can not be completed until Sept 9, when the 2 month trade restriction on
Humphries, Buckner, and Jawai passes.
Reason for Nets: The Nets save 2010 cap room, acquire a draft pick, and get a young bigman in Nathan Jawai.
Reason for Hornets: Dooling and Humphries provide nice depth off the bench. The money-conscious Hornets also save $8 million+ this year, after releasing Buckner. If the Hornets feel they need a center after losing Armstrong, several minimum contract options would be available like Petro, or Collins.
Reason for Mavs: Mavs get a backup center in Hilton Armstrong and a decent prospect in Julian Wright. Najera comes back to Dallas and provides some energy off the bench. In 2010, Najera's unguaranteed contract can be combined with Dampier's for even more trading possibilities.
