1) It's less than the MLE
2) He can be traded later
3) It's only __% of the cap
4) The cap is going up
5) It's only __ years
6) He's a good mentor/locker room guy

Post Merger-Present
Must pick one of the following players:
Allen Iverson
Gilbert Arenas
Baron Davis
Stephon Marbury
George Gervin
Adrian Dantley
Alex English
Mark Aguirre
Bernard King
Carmelo Anthony
Dominique Wilkins
Elvin Hayes
Derrick Coleman
Bob McAdoo
Demarcus Cousins
Ralph Sampson
This player must have the most FGA on your team. Normal 88 FGA for the team including this player. The remaining players you draft must have never made an All-NBA or All-ABA 1st team OR 2nd team. Meaning the highest accolade of your remaining players is All-NBA 3rd team. Post Merger to 2020. All-Defense is allowed.
I took some players from the past draft, incorporated some of my own. If we end up with less than 16 drafters then there might be a few left over.
Basically just fine tuning the idea.
Thoughts?

A problem I see is that Coleman, Sampson, Aguirre, Marbury, and arguably Davis aren't in the same class as the others. Cousins is borderline. There's no scenario in which I can envision a 50-win team being built around Marbury for example.
I'd ditch those guys and instead include C-Webb, Westbrook, Griffin, D-Rose, Brand, and Dame.

I think Dame is a bit more useful than those others in the context of our games, so I don't really want to include him. Can you think of any other Centers that could possibly replace Cousins? I am trying to spread out the positions a bit.

Maybe Amare or KAT? Not sure if they're good enough though

If you are doing post-merger you have to take out McAdoo- who peaked pre-merger and was unimpressive by comparison by the late 70s.

I think I am going to keep Cousins, but I would like your thoughts on McAdoo vs Lanier vs KAT vs Amar'e, and I will get a signup thread up tomorrow. One of those 4 makes the cut.

Lanier’s problem isn’t just that he’s high volume and unconventional, he’s also kind of “of his era”- I’m not sure how well he fits if he’s up against modern offenses.
McAdoo translates nicely as a power forward- he was ahead of his time.
I think you’d need to push the year limit to slightly pre-merger though.
KAT and Amare don’t really do it for me. They’re not as good and they’re cheaper- easier to build with. I don’t think they present the same type of challenge the rest do.

Is there a rule your star must have the most fga's? If so a cheap guy would pose challenges.

It would, but I’d prefer if that wasn’t a rule.
I’m also not sure why Elton Brand is here. He has a very cheap very strong season.

That rule was part of the plan, that this player you take from this list has to be your highest FGA player.

Hmm. Maybe disregard my opinion then. Probably won’t be into this idea.

Re: Future Draft Games
Interesting one would be each participant gets a franchise, among the franchises that existed since the merger, and players picked must have played more games in their career with that franchise than any other. eg. Jason Kidd played 506 games for Nets and 500 for Dallas so he belongs to Nets.
No restrictions.

A handful of franchises would completely dominate that one. No way could the Nets for example compete with the Spurs (Duncan, Robinson, Kawhi, Manu) or the Lakers (Shaq, Kobe, Magic).

Re: Future Draft Games
Idea for a “Credentials Max” draft game (1977-2020)
Each team is only allowed a max of:
A: only 1 - MVP/multi-All-NBA(1)
B: only 2 - All-NBA (any team)
C: only 2 - DPOY
D: only 4 - All-Stars
E: only 4 - Slam dunk, 6MOY, or MIP winners
F: only 4 - All-Defensive team
Examples:
MJ & Dwight Howard would check every box
Magic would check A, B, & D
Jimmy & PG13 would check all boxes but C (DPOY)
Drazen Petrovic would only check B
Middleton would only check D (All-Star)
Camby would check C & F
Bruce Bowen would only check F

It looks to me like you're getting one MVP (A), one all-NBA (B), and two all-stars (C)...since the higher accolade will check off the lower ones. I mean, who would take four all-stars instead of that? Or do I misunderstand?
I'd say maybe put a point value on each with a total number of points allowed?

Point system may work. I was trying to think of how to include more of the “one or two time all-stars” that never make All-NBA & often get boxed-out in other games.

I liked the six franchise championship rings game - could we do that with RealGM titles won by players, have a total limit? Or was that done?
