The Tall Firs select:

Image

Jeff Ruland (1983-84) - 22.2/12.3/3.9/1.0/0.9, .579/.733

Ruland's career may have been derailed by injuries, but his '84 campaign showed what could have been. Ruland was a powerful player on both ends of the court who could hit the 20-footer. As good as he was in the regular season, he averaged 24/13/8 on the Celtics that year in the playoffs...

With our 10th pick, we're going with Jeff Hornacek in '92

Image

1991-92 - 20.1/5.0/5.1/2.0, .512/.439/.886

Hornacek may not be the sexy pick here, but I believe that he's the best fit. He's also the only player in the history of the NBA to go for 20/5/5/2 on over 50% from the field and 40% from three. Hornacek was obviously one of the NBA's all time elite shooters, but he was also a good passer, rebounder, and defender. His all-around game and team-first attitude make him a perfect 10th man and you can never have too many shooters. If our opponent is fouling to stop the clock at the end of the game, Horny will be in.

Drazen Petrovic

Before his tragic death he put together a season that was a masterpiece in shooting efficiency in 1993, a follow up of an amazing year previously as well.

.518/.449/.870 on 22.2 ppg. Almost 52% shooting with 3pt range. :o

His best season with the Clippers he put up career numbers 24.7 pts 10 rbs. and 2.5 blocks a game. He lead his team to their first playoff's in almost 10 years defeating denver in the first round 4-1, only to lose to the suns in the conference semis.

I'm going with Carl Landry.

I wanted a workhorse, someone who can knock down the mid-range shot, rebound around the rim, and finish with the best of them. Someone who can come in and change the complete course of the game, essentially putting up hall of fame caliber stats off the bench. With, both he and Hakeem in my frontcourt, offensively, we'll create too many mis-matches, and be dangerous on the weakside defensively. I'm very surprised that he's still available on the board, and I'm very happy to have him here.

I really wanted to go this route, as the last two drafts, I had gone with Chuck Hayes in the past two drafts, and Landry is probably my favorite player in the league. I typed all that up, because the intention was for him to be my pick. But that was twelve round drafts, and in a last minute decision, my real pick will be:

Tree Rollins

Which means, yes people, Carl Landry is available to be drafted. :(

I will select one of my personal favorite players of all time, if he didn't get hurt he would have been an all time great! But he did manage to make 2 all star teams in really only 3 seasons as a full time player, but he was a deadly shooter and CLUTCH!

"He was dubbed "The Boston Strangler" by Boston sportswriters during the 76ers' and Boston Celtics' rivalry in the early 1980s because of his ability to single-handedly dominate games against the Celtics including Game 7 of the 1982 Eastern Conference Finals by scoring 34 points in a game.

Toney was a prolific scorer, particularly against the elite teams of the time such as the Los Angeles Lakers and Celtics. It wasn't uncommon for him to put up thirty or more points single handedly against such teams."

1982 Andrew Toney

*side note, by my quick count AT was the 18th Sixer taken and still no AI

^^Career 42-31 FG-3P percentage? TO's up the yin-yang? Not known to play well with others? His rep hurts him a lot.

Yeah, I hate to sound like a hater, but I am absolutely thrilled that Iverson went undrafted (since I know damn well War won't be dumb enough to take him).
