Moses Malone. Going a direction I didn't anticipate with this one, but I really see no reason these two couldn't make a deadly tandem together.

Team RiotPunch selects the man who graces the NBA logo, Jerry West.

Every good team needs someone who can close out a game, and Jerry West definitely does that. He is an elite scorer, shooter, passer and is as clutch as they come. We love the tandem of Jerry West and Karl Malone moving forward.

Patrick Ewing for GrantHill. I haven't heard from him in almost 5 hours, and he didn't make his first pick, so I cut his time a bit short.

TOUGH DECISION:

I'll take...urg...Artis Gilmore.

Image

After watching some video, I'm convinced of his greatness. He was an INSANE jumper, probably best shot blocker of his time, lock down defender, underrated interior passer, and also can anchor an offense. He won a title as the best player, and an MVP. Now I have arguably the 2 best ABA players!

Charles Barkley.

One of the GOAT offensive players, great player with sick handles that could take you inside or outside. Also a fantastic passer and a damn good rebounder. Great fit beside Russel.

Rick Barry

I didn't want to make this pick; I told Snake after I made my Shaq selection that I didn't want to be in a position where I'd think the choice would have to be Rick Barry. In nearly every ATL I select this guy, for reasons that I'm starting to believe are bordering on having homosexual feelings for him. I want to try to reason out the pick here (was considering at least 3-6 players, and honestly leaned towards one of them very strongly for at least a good ten minutes before switching to another one); I feel Barry provides that "superstar" effect on the perimeter, in which defenses have to account for b/c of the ability to take over the game from the perimeter. I think he's very modern like in his game, in the sense he can score from nearly everywhere on the floor, and was a tremendous passer (one of the best passing forwards of all time, IMO), and created tremendous spacing for his teammates. I'm not going to beat around the bush that Barry was a jerk, but Shaq has shown the ability to play w/ other shot dominant wings, and for a single season peak/playoff run, it's something I'd trust would form a potent duo. He was VERY good off the ball, tremendous with it, a big playoff performer, and anchored the second best offense in the league for three seasons straight w/out anything I'd call tremendous offensive help. He wasn't a great defender, but he isn't a poor one that people make him out to be; he competed defensively (he always competed), and was a monster in the passing lanes, a catalyst for that Warriors trapping defense that was the best ranked defense in the league the year they won the championship.

And, honestly speaking, if at a point where I choose I must forfeit Shaq for a first round pick, I'm confident, that I'll still have a superstar ability player to anchor my offense. Saying all this, I'm still iffy on the pick, but don't have any inclination towards who else I would have selected. Obviously, it might strap us a bit for future picks, but we feel this is a proven strategy.

Walt Frazier!

ESPN Says "Perhaps the best defensive point guard of all time. He was also a great scorer, rebounder, assist man and floor general. A true team player, but when he needed to take over he did.

In Game 7 of the 1970 Finals against Wilt, West and the Lakers, he notched 36 points, 19 assists and 5 steals to make up for a hobbled Willis Reed.

No one did it better with more style and grace on the world's greatest stage."

Seriously? You guys all made your picks within like 30 minutes of me going to sleep? Researching.

edit: I tried and tried and tried to talk myself into a certain someone I've always wanted to use. At the end of the day, I couldn't.

Hondo's my man.

Going with the other Celtic, Dave Cowens. One of the few NBA MVP's left who isn't a ballhog or inefficient.

My frontcourt is set, now all I need is a closer on the wings.

A very well rounded player that at his peak, put up 27/8/6/2.7 stls on 50%. He can do it all, defend, pass, rebound and score. I'm comfortable with Drexler as my best wing player.

Ill take Gary Payton. He's my favorite player of all-time, amazing defensive player, and a gem as the 2nd best perimeter offensive player on my team. Can do it all, and a good fit with Erving and Gilmore.
