What is the start date and time (time zone too) for the draft?

Up to the commissioner.

As of Germany, I‘ll send the draft-commissioner my top 10 for my pick, except I trade it.

This is the schedule I was thinking (leaning on last year´s mock off-season):

Tuesday, May 15th - Begin hiring/firing coaches if you felt it was warranted as well as deciding on team options/non-guaranteed contracts

Tuesday, May 15th - A short explanation for your franchise´s goals in this mock off-season (remember, it should be realisitc)

Friday, May 18th - Simulate the remaining playoff results on predictionmachine.com

Saturday, May 19th - Begin NBA Draft

Day After Draft Completion (Goal: Tuesday, May 22nd) - Start Day 1 out of 15 for free agency and go the next 15 days until the end of free agency

Days After Day 15 of Free Agency - Opening night roster submission
---------------------------------------------

Are we adjusting this because I thought we had until Saturday for the draft.

Correction: Just wanted this to be here for anyone else who looks. You posted in the other thread that it is on Sunday 5/20 at 8PM EST.

I wanted to make sure it was said here just so the last comment isn't read on accident.

Question: The first post states one set of rules, this states another... How ARE we doing the draft? To be clear... Last year the draft took multiple days. I think it's ambitious to try and have people all available on a Saturday night.

These were the only rules I posted. Only thing that changed, to my knowledge, about the draft was the date. And a time was established. Commish?

Draft
The NBA Draft will be one continuous thread where each team is on the clock once the previous team makes their selection. Trade negotiations will take place in this thread throughout the draft and all 60 picks will be made in this thread. Once the 60th pick is in, we will start free agency the day after.

We have to discuss how we handle the draft in a solid amount of time (last year, it took more than 4 days, way too long). The draft commissioner will find a good solution for it though

We will be adding the NBA Draft, team options/non-guaranteed contracts and coaching firing/hiring to this year's version. We will start the coaching hires and fires as well as a short summary of your franchise´s goals once all spots are filled.

Schedule
This is the schedule I was thinking (leaning on last year´s mock off-season):

Saturday, May 19th - Begin NBA Draft

Day After Draft Completion (Goal: Tuesday, May 22nd) - Start Day 1 out of 15 for free agency and go the next 15 days until the end of free agency

Basically what was originally posted was that the draft would be similar in format (hopefully sped up) but nothing about needing to be in a fixed place at a fixed time.

If we really want to speed it up but still retain the old format, it would be a simple enough rule to say: Once you are on the clock, you MUST pick... that is where things hung up last year. so if you want to trade up or in, you need to do it before the active pick

Assuming no timezone issues, couldn't each pick be scheduled for a 30 minute window? That would give time for offers to be submitted, but also for people to not have to constantly check if they're up.

I actually agree with this. Life happens and this isn’t our actual job. I’m thinking the first round could be at least 20-30 minutes per pick and the 2nd round can be sped up. I’m fine with whatever, but surprise draft picks happen and they force teams to scramble and make trades. The 20-30 minutes allowed could make for some entertaining and exciting dialogue.

Honestly I wouldn't change the format from last year... it took a long time but... damn it WAS fun. This feels arbitrarily rushed.

I just like the idea of knowing I have to hop on sometime between x:00 & x:30 to make a pick.

Last year’s format was great. The only issue came with time constraints. It became a tedious waiting game near the end. The draft shouldn’t be 3 days(!) long. There definitely should be some sort of time limit to a pick. Time zones and work make this hard, so we are all in a tough spot. Thankfully, most people don’t have work on Sundays so that takes that issue out, but I still see problems with the short time windows.

I have a wedding to attend on Sunday, so knowing a specific appointment time helps. I won't be nearly as active on the weekend as I am on weekdays.

This simply isn't reasonable... someone with the 15th-18th pick is going to basically have to spend their whole Saturday evening at the computer in case a couple of picks go quick. If everything goes long... with 15 minute windows the first round will take.. 7 1/2 hours? Are we really expecting people to be picking at #30 at 1am EST?

I find this to be more un-reasonable than last year.

Most of us are still working deals, which would significantly alter our choices if made... so most of us simply aren't in a position to lock down our top 10, because depending on where we pick, that list may not be relevant.
