Sorry, making a quick pick wasn’t a priority- I knew the clock wasn’t starting.

Generally, the idea behind the long delay before the clock starts is to give everyone a fair chance to make thoughtful first (and even second) round picks without feeling rushed. When someone uses nearly the whole day for their pick, it kind of goes against the spirit of that buffer.

I had Bird as the best player and first on my board, but it was temping to go with Kawhi and try to reserve both categories 1 and 2

While I agree with your sentiment (mildly annoyed myself that I’m not making my first pick until I’m at work today given when it started), I don’t think an OG like Snake who’s done countless of these games needs the explanation.

I have a similar conundrum on the horizon. Category 1 and 2 have the most guys I like so I want to keep those open for a while, but on the other hand they also have most of the top guys I like soooo

Maybe my approach is wrong. Might be a better approach to do something like 3 hours for round 1+2, and then 2 hours for next rounds. You are correct that those things should go without saying for the old timer participants, but we do try to evolve our rules over time and the approach I'm trying to employ in my games isn't necessarily the standard done in the past.

For enough! I think there has to be some sort of buffer, I don’t think it’d be wise to start with a clock immediately, even if longer. Mainly just need time between when the draft order is announced and when the clock starts

Had other things going on which were higher on my mental list, none of which I have to justify to you.

By all means skip me next time.

If you want people to pick faster the pathway to that is via changes in the rules, not shaming people who were operating within them.

Thanks.

Honestly, I focused more on these when I was working. Right at the computer, easy to check in frequently. Since retiring I've gotten a healthy number of skips.
Comments to rationalize bad contracts -
1) It's less than the MLE
2) He can be traded later
3) It's only __% of the cap
4) The cap is going up
5) It's only __ years
6) He's a good mentor/locker room guy

I hear you, and just to clarify—I wasn’t trying to shame anyone. I don’t necessarily want people to pick faster either. I just assumed people would make their picks at a normal pace, especially with the extra buffer at the start. The idea behind the delay was to give everyone space for thoughtful early picks, not to stretch things out unnecessarily. That’s really all I meant—just sharing how it looked from my side.

I get that you're playing within the rules - and I'm not trying to police anyone.
