We did an accolades based draft some years ago, but I don't think we ever revisited the concept.

I thought it would just be a one-off, but if it's popular it could become an alternative format.

I don't remember ever doing this concept. Either I didn't participate or I just forgot.

Trading the MVP:

Celtics Hawks (Russell)
Suns Philly (Barkley)
Mavericks Bucks (Dirk)
Lakers Hornets (Kobe)
Thunder Clippers (SGA)
Rockets Thunder (Harden)
Rockets Clippers (Moses)

We can add Lakers Bucks for Kareem's trade, or focus only on players that became MVPs post-trade

Led league in assists? (Harden, Paul, Nash, KIdd, Magic, Oscar)
Sixth overall pick? (Dame, Bird, Roy)

A tight but potentially interesting pool.
Comments to rationalize bad contracts -
1) It's less than the MLE
2) He can be traded later
3) It's only __% of the cap
4) The cap is going up
5) It's only __ years
6) He's a good mentor/locker room guy

Should be a category for player turned coach

Yeah player turned coach is classic here, but a little bit too much overlap maybe with assists leader category, so I prefer the sixth pick

I'd sub player turned coach for assist leader. It embodies Wilkins more. No strong feeling on the sixth pick, just thought we might need another alpha, but probably won't if we go coaches.

I think assist leader is too constraining- not every team that is built needs an "assist leader"- it funnels you into a specific style of team in some ways.

Atlanta
Seattle
Cleveland
Toronto
New York
Portland
Player turned coach
Sixth pick

That's eight - one from each category to add a little strategy?

Ok the sixth pick isn't the friendliest of draft pools, but I'm up for the challenge

I would say that the date range would have to be wide open.
