Super Powered wrote:What about a game where drafters were assigned franchises in which you have to select a player drafted by that team. Rounds 2-8 won't have teams assigned until the preceding round is finished. So after round 1 is over, new franchises are randomly assigned to drafters. This could create good chaos as no one could really plan ahead and it could be fun. I'm not sure which years to use. Maybe 1960-2017?
I feel like this would have less to do with skill and more to do with pure luck

Re: Future Draft Games
I was a thinking a Tweak the Champion game might be fun. Everyone picks an eight player core from a title team in the first round and then in each subsequent round selects one available player to replace someone on his roster.
The problem is, if you can't reuse players, there are surprisingly few title teams since say 1980.
Magic's Lakers
Bird's Celtics
Bad Boys
Jordan's Bulls
Hakeem's Rockets
Duncan's Spurs
Shaq/Kobe Lakers (which sort of eliminates Kobe/Gasol Lakers and Wade/Shaq Heat)
2004 Pistons
KG Celtics
LeBron's Heat (eliminates LeBron's Cavs)
Dirk's Mavs
Warriors
Expand it to any team that made the Finals? Or our base could be current teams?

1) It's less than the MLE
2) He can be traded later
3) It's only __% of the cap
4) The cap is going up
5) It's only __ years
6) He's a good mentor/locker room guy

I was thinking the second way. Is there a problem with the first way?

I guess you could do either. Is the second a Pod type thing with four pods of four, and the four winners go to a final draft?

We could do it that way. My original idea was 16, then 8, then 4, then 2, like in the original draft tournament. Whoever runs it could decide.

Interesting idea but a couple thoughts...
- So you select a team in the first round and then tweak it 7 times? Therefore you end up with a whole new team except the Batman? Kind of makes the concept pointless
- Once you "release" a player, does he become available for everyone to draft?

I was thinking a round for teams and then three rounds for available players. I suppose a released player could go back into the pool. But I'm afraid there may be a balance issue.
On edit - Or instead of tweaking a champion, we could try to build a team into one? We could use the Bridesmaid list of teams that have not won a title since the merger. There are 16, so each drafter could select a team and draft elite players to add. You'd select a particular team, like the 2002 Nets or 1990 Blazers.

Dr Positivity wrote:Thanks!
I suggested some like the 2nd banana draft, Total Wins Draft, Speed Limit, No #1s, Good Stats Bad Team and beat MJ (which I already know is unpopular so scratch that one) so I'm naturally interested in all those. I also brought up a 50 FGA draft, again unpopular but if you want to list it.
Other than that I like
- 2nd best franchise draft - Could make it you can't take the franchise they played the most games for. It might be top heavy though.
- All-Defense only - we decided this would be best with team-ups to get it down to 8 teams
- Picking outside of top 3/5
- Zodiac draft
Lots of positive comments on this one. Shall we do it next?
BTW, this eliminates less players than I had thought.

Re: Future Draft Games
Would the 2K draft interest anybody? The fact is, I have this awesome creation by the name of UBR on 2K12 so I basically have a roster from every year from 1970 to 2014. If enough guys would want to join I could just copy the player ratings from each year of each player and still have those years and restrictions.
Another cool idea I got: any player who played over 800 games in their career is ineligible. Have the era something like merger-2010 so it will cut most current guys out. Thoughts on this?

Re: Future Draft Games
Declining %s - stars only. Players who have made 1st or 2nd team have declining %, all 3rd team or worse are 100%. I feel this would involve a lot of strategy as 3rd team all-stars and role players become a lot more viable as early picks than in the regular game

Laimbeer, now would be the time for a 2018 draft if you still wantedto do that. Were in need of a new game and ALL STAR break is immenint...

I will be sitting out the next one since my access will be limited for the next several days. If someone else wants to do it, I'm fine with that.

Unless someone wants to do the half season draft to fit it into all-star weekend, I'll probably start the stars declining % game

No one seems to be stepping up, you should go for it.

Re: Future Draft Games
I was thinking about game with 16 participants and with a limited player pool were each franchise will have 4 players available. That means that if Steph Curry, Durant, Draymond and Klay Thompson get drafted then no one else can draft from the Warriors and have to look for players in other franchise's. Could be fun using all of the franchises equally and some stars andquality role players will be left out because some franchises have been so stacked with talent
