Comments to rationalize bad contracts -
1) It's less than the MLE
2) He can be traded later
3) It's only __% of the cap
4) The cap is going up
5) It's only __ years
6) He's a good mentor/locker room guy

Yeah, Jerry West was the other guy I was most heavily considering. Don't quite know enough about his playstyle to feel as comfortable vouching for him.

I very strongly considered keeping those categories open. But ultimately most good picks that technically kept those categories open created awkward fits with my favored 1/2 options anyway.

Two MVPs for under 25 FGA feels like cheating.

I'm in a similar spot, with Dirk and Russell for ~27 FGAs. And I still have my Cat 2 open.

Kawhi/West is pretty wild.

I considered him with the third pick given the scarcity of players in that mold.

Nash fits in either category 1 or 2 so I have a bit of flexibility. Dirk/Russell is so good…

This is the annoying thing about picking at work without my spreadsheet. I completely forgot about Russell and someone else who would have been a great fit with Magic.

Any consideration for using Mavs Nash and keeping both Cat 1 and 2 open? Suppose it's unlikely unless someone drops to justify that switch.

I think Magic and Russell are both only eligible as coaches

I doubt I’ll find someone in both categories worth making that switch.

I’m hypothetically open to it but would be surprised if it ended up being worth it.

You're right, the other guy would have been eligible for me though.

I'll confess I somehow forgot Dr J.

I obviously could not have picked him in round 2 even if I'd remembered him at that stage, but knowing of him may have impacted my decision to take Wilt in round 1.

I'm guessing that's who Fade meant too. He fits with Magic and is an option closed to Fade- he didn't express any hope of getting him anyway.

I'd have also considered him over Butler in DB's case, maybe even over West in Dr P's case (though Kawhi/West is damn near perfect and hard to second guess).

I still like Wilt/Nash but am unsure I can get the right pieces around them. This round is critical.

It was Doc. Honestly, I should have remembered him anyway because I noted early on that SF was heavily impacted by these restrictions. As it happened, I was locked in on AD and grabbed the next best big when he went right before me. Not a huge deal I guess, Magic-Embiid is still a good start.
