these games usually go through testing anyways. I say start up a commish thread and let's get that worked out, so we can move on to rules and participants. I do like the idea of waiting for the actual game to start after the trade deadline though.

I am doing up everyone's roster/draft picks in Excel sheets, and will post them on a share site (this may take a lot of time so bare with me)

The sheets that I do up will be updated as much as possible.

However, people will still be required to have a roster page that is up to date since its easier for one person to do their own than it is for one person to do all 30.

going to start them now, will find a good share site later...if anyone has a suggestion for it please name it.

EDIT:got some done

Just thought about something else,

as always some GMs disappear and need to be replaced.

Would you guys like to be able to send trade offers to me for those teams that do not have a GM, obviously I will play very hard in trading in these scenarios/consult multiple outside people and not let the other players steal away players.

Sure, but only when it is too late in the game to replace a GM.

I agree. I think it's worth holding out for a minute to see if someone will step up.

Is this a single season game or will it span several?

Looks like one year. Mascot posted a rough schedule in another thread:

Trading - possibly starting this Tuesday, depends on if teams are filled
End Trading - Feb 26th
Rankings for Draft Due - Feb 28th
Draft - March 1st-5th
FA - March 6th - 16th
Final Trading Period March 16th - 29th
Final Rankings Due - April 3rd

yea, one year. The other games seemed to last way to long when they spanned 2-3 years.

also it was very unrealistic.

Some players who are at their peak and about to go downhill were being ranked as top players still 3 years from now. Duncan for instance, Jason Kidd, etc..

some 35 year old guys were getting signed to 20 million a year contracts for 5 years.

I did my best to make this last go round more realistic and quicker paced but it is a slow process when it comes to changing things. Hell I was happy enough to see fairly up to date rosters this time and slightly more realistic FA contracts.

My very first game as GM I spearheaded the move to change draft picks to be based on in game records instead of how the RL counterparts were ranked and that met with a lot of resistance but IMO was the only fair way to do things. Changes tend to be met with some reservations and that is understandable to some extent.

I will be curious to see if you can speed things up even further and get things even more realistic this go round.

baby steps :)

and even though I have said it before, good luck.

we have improved on the game every time, I hope I can do a good job. It seems like this time we have more active people though. Only a couple of people below 200 posts so far, most over 2k so im hopeing we have up to date rosters.

I did notice a couple guys that bailed from last game 'nbaaddict' and 'calderon' trying to get teams again. I hope if they do get teams they stick with it.

I will be watching all GMs closely this time around. Am creating a mass email list as people sign up. Will be sending out reminders once a week for sure, even active people will get it so dont be upset if you get an email that seems like its yelling at you even though you are active and updated..

I think it's a great idea as well. The #1 thing that has compromised the enjoyment of these games for those who stick with it is infrequent/unreliable posters. IMO there should be a very low tolerance for that this go round.

From the other thread

This is from one of the previous games

The Detroit Pistons have announced that they have resigned Andrew Bynum
1st year - 14mil
2nd year - 15.4 mil
3rd year - 16.8 mil
4th year - 18.2 mil
5th year - 19.6 mil ETO
6th year - 21.2 mil

like honestly guys, give me a break! Bynum and 14 mil? thats just insane. Abusing the cap space is one thing and being just a little more realistic is another.

I can mention more signings like that but lets just end this right here. I am looking for a happier result this time lol and i m staying till the end.

Bynum is making 12.5 million this year, so its not THAT far off.....

I understand what you are trying to say, but it was a bad example.

Bynum would be a 20/10 guy on the right team. When Pau came back his numbers plummeted with his drop in the pecking order.

and

If I remember correctly... a certain GM with cap space kept offering max offers to the top tier RFAs and drove prices/contracts up across the board. Bynum was one of the more sound deals out of that group that got screwed around.

there's nothing wrong with inflated contracts as long as judging takes it into account.

I had a thought about future GM-A-Team games. How about having some players act as "agents"?

The agents could be either competitive or non-competitive. If they are non-competitive, players could be assigned arbitrarily and the agents basically are helping out the Commish. If it is competitive they should "draft" their players and try to get the most money for their players. Initially the agent competition should probably be some formula based on current salary and total salary. As the game evolves it could include an incentive to get players on winning teams and other criteria.

The agents would handle the player side of contract negotiations for the players they represent. I think this could be especially helpful during the Free Agent period, so the Commish does not get overwhelmed.
