Start it normally, then draft in past players based on mid-game rankings without changing any current players (Warriorfan's idea)

Incorporate HOF teams into the league like the Bad Boy Pistons and Showtime Lakers (Warriorfan's idea)

Take a team that someone else used in a past GMAT game, and use that as the teams (Babyjax idea)

Take a 3 year period, and use the players from that. Keeps current players if overlaps occur. Trade, draft legends into the league. Trade more, then use remaining legends and 2012 draftees as the 2012 draft. (Blazer50's idea)

I personally don't think 2 full FA's/drafts is good. I think we should stick with the original timeline, but with a view to running a second 'retro' game a bit later on.
There is no consolation prize. Winning is everything.

my thinking with the extra draft is with the opportunity to get dwight howard a guarenteed superstar who can change your team more people may stay in a retro game the draft has more meaning

04 draft isn't very deep though. Best five players are Dwight, Iggy, Jefferson, Deng and Martin. It's not very deep, plus 04 FA is very thin too. AND we are starting a completely new idea, maybe we can do a 03/04 season (or 04/05, with Paul/Deron in 05 draft) for the next round, but I think we should just do this one game at a time.

I guess my point is that I agree that we should try to do 04, or 05, or some other year, but we should wait until doing a new game to do it.

Ok perfect, thanks for that.

One issue I'm contemplating is the salary cap. In the 02/03 season, it was at $40.27M, with lux tax 10M higher, and I don't think a hard cap. However, only 2 teams are under that cap (Was, Lac) and the Lac have a bunch of RFA's to sign (Brand, Miller, Odom, ect), so I see a very boring FA with that soft cap. So I think 50M, 60M Lux, 100M hard would be more reasonable. Still only 10 teams are under the cap, but then about another 10-12 are in the 50-60 range, with only the big players over 60M, so I think that would be better.

Looking for some feedback here.

The amnesty clause would take care of some of the albatross contracts of the pre max contract era when Jordan could make 36mil. A purge a contract thread would help make free agency more active. Plus add more free agents into the mix.

I would really like to make a 80 mil ceiling a hard cap.

I disagree, I don't see the need for an amnesty. It just makes the game much, much more easy, and I think it's more impressive and challenging to take a crappy contract team and make them good, but not nearly as impressive with the amnesty. PLUS we already have a whole new game (as I mentioned earlier) so the less new other things, the better.

Not to mention that we don't really know all of the bad contracts in the game, because we know how they play out. IE Joe Johnson could still be an allstar in 5 years, and all this talk about a bad contract could be false, but if he was in the league at this point in 02/03, then we would know that, and he wouldn't be a bad contract. Bad contracts are really all thoughts on how bad they will be, based on their current contract.

Well the Blazers are at 91M, and they have a few exp bringing them down. A 80M hard cap hasnt basically ever happened in the NBA, the current one is at 90M, so I don't see the need for the false reality.

I would like to know why you want a 80M hard cap, amnesty, ect, because my case is that it just makes the game a whole lot easier, and with an already very deep FA class, we don't need the extra crappy players that that contract would produce. I also think very few teams will use the amnesty anyways, because generally, people don't know what bad contracts of the time were.

I will agree that we dont have amnesty because this is a retro game and we know what the good free agent signings, draft picks etc are because this is history so the game will be too easy

On New Game I think the voting ranking criteria

should be a rating

who is the best team now. 1-30
Who will be the best team 5 years 1-30

We've tried that before, doesn't work well. It gives a HUGE advantage to teams that start better, IE (currently) a team that takes the Heat and makes a decent title team is a whole lot different than taking a team like Detroit and making them a contender. Miami is the better team, but Detroit did a better job because Miami took a great team and made them the best, while Detroit took a crappy team and made them great.

Under your rankings, Miami would get the higher ranking, just because they started with more, even though Detroit did much better.

I like to deal with quantifiable.

Or I would like to break the ranking into categories. And give a 1-5 rating.

I think what makes this different is that it is a retro game where the rewards are known. Worst team after trading will get super talent Le Bron and so on through out the

Didn't want to spam in signups thread, so i'll post it here:

I'm against 1 GM having 2 teams. I'd rather wait and play normal game, where there are 29 GM's (IN 2002/03 there were 29 teams right?) and everyone controls 1 team.
Of course, it's only my opinion, so if you decide to do so, at least, forbid the trades between 2 teams that are controlled by 1 GM.

Not up to me, but I don't think trades between two teams would be allowed. Signups are painfully slow this go around which is why we think this is a good solution to get things moving.

@ Roc

I know the last game hasn't yet finished but I'm quite sure those GM's have seen the signup list and have chosen to join, not join the game. I dunno why there isn't more interest tbh. Perhaps more patience is required on our part, you may be right. We'll see what Kees has to say tonight.
