Re: NBA/ABA Decades League Draft Thread: Warspite x2
I'm going Chris Paul here.

I'm pretty surprised he was available here in the fourth round. His career may not be at the level of the all time greats, but his peak, in terms of these past couple of seasons, he's been as good as any other PG in league history, barring Magic. He efficiently scores over 20 per game, is the top assist man in the league, has tremendously improved his three point shot, and does all this on one of the slowest paced teams in the NBA. He's electric in the passing lanes, and been named to the All NBA Defensive team multiple times. His poise, and decision making are what makes him special, the fact he averages under three turnovers for a player of his magnitude is outstanding. We took the risk on passing on him, in order to secure Lucas, and fortunately he was able to get back to me on the loop around.

With the last pick of the fourth round, the Tall Firs select 1969 MVP Wes Unseld!

13.8/18.2/2.6, .476/.605, MVP
I had written Unseld off after my last pick, so I'm thrilled he was still here. Already having three 20+ppg guys starting, I believe that he is the absolute perfect starting PF for the squad. A do-it-all (very well) kind of guy who hauled in an MVP while putting up less than 14ppg. His picks for and outlet passes to James and Hondo alone practically justify this selection.

13.8/18.2/2.6, .476/.605, MVP
All that firepower left Unseld free to roam in comparative obscurity, doing what he enjoys most: setting murderous picks, hauling in rebounds, directing a devastating defense, neutralizing the other center—this time, Nate Thurmond—and triggering the Bullets' offense with some of the most amazing passing in the league. There were also the blocked shots, the steals, the forcing of turnovers. After you watch Unseld play, scoring becomes a shallow statistic.

With the first pick in the fifth round, the Tall Firs select 1987 Defensive Player of the Year, Michael Cooper!

10.5/3.1/4.5, .438/.385, Defensive Player of the Year
http://news.google.com/newspapers?nid=1948&dat=19840529&id=SK4zAAAAIBAJ&sjid=xdcFAAAAIBAJ&pg=4282,5804882
Drafting for the best possible fit, we're thrilled to nab Cooper. A guy who can spread the floor, pass, and handle the rock on offense and lock down any G/F on defense, Coop is another perfect compliment to our guys who is a proven championship level role player on a loaded squad (80's Lakers).

Larry Bird must have thought he was up against a Doberman pincscher, a bred for business beast who was in no mood for fun. Everywhere Bird went, a man with razored cheekbones, sinewy biceps, and a filthy glare shadowed him.
