Re: Future Draft Games
I think it is over correcting to limit people to 1 MVP.
If I want to use all my FGA on 2 MVPs and then round out my roster with role players that's fine. If I want to pick 4 stars on the Paul Pierce to Scottie Pippen Tier that should also be fine.
What it looks like we are doing is making this draft extremely linear. If you play other board games or card games this is essentially taking something like bridge or euchre and turning it into go fish.

Re: Future Draft Games
I think one MVP rules added to the previous game you guys played is fine. It adds strategy as if you use the MVP before Lebron shows up you could be costing yourself in the future. The only issue is that getting a player as good as Wade or Kawhi could be valuable. Randomizing the entire draft order every time wouldn't be too bad though

The thing is outside of Jordan and Shaq MVP are generally not more expensive than regularly all-stars. So if a player ends up with 2 MVPs they can still add Pierce level all-stars with the other picks and get the easy advantage over the player who just had 4 secondary all-stars.
We have played games before that forced players to choose between having for example 1 MVP or or 2 1st team All NBA players or 3-4 2nd and 3rd team All NBA guys
Just to be clear when people are talking about 1 MVP rule they mean it specifically for the random years game to correct for the top and bottom teams getting stacked. Other games would not have the 1 MVP rule unless it was necessary specifically for that game such as in a pairs draft to prevent people from taking Jordan and Lebron

Re: Future Draft Games
How about a 65 WS limit draft? No FGA limit. We count win shares up to 65 instead.

I draft 70 win teams though...
I think moving beyond FGA would be cool. FGA seem to be the golden standard here.
Another barometer we could use is 100% USG%.

85 total PPG draft? Would lead to some interesting decisions on where to take Jordan, etc.

Could do a no FGA limit draft. Instead, only accolade limits (we’ve done it before, but also had FGA limits)

Re: Future Draft Games
What about a random team, non-draft game? Everyone would get maybe three or four teams at random. The teams could be divided into tiers so everyone gets one team from the top tier, one team from the second tier, etc.
Comments to rationalize bad contracts -
1) It's less than the MLE
2) He can be traded later
3) It's only __% of the cap
4) The cap is going up
5) It's only __ years
6) He's a good mentor/locker room guy

Re: Future Draft Games
How about random conferences, 90s to now? e.g. 1996 East, 2000 West, 2017 West. One MVP per team.

I feel like in some ways that makes the picks more obvious and less interesting strategy wise. The MVP from your tier 1 team will likely be a pretty clear pick, likewise there may be a standout star on the second tier team. It also creates some issues where for example Minnesota is one of the worst franchises, but they have KG, so it could be an advantage if you get to use your low ranked franchise on KG and then save your top level franchises on the other players. I liked the idea of the non draft game with <3 win players since it could go in so many directions

I like that too, but I'd rather see each title a player won at realgm cost an extra FGA as opposed to banning anyone with more than three. It would be interesting to see if anyone would bite the bullet on the big fish.

Yep, I'm always a fan of adding the and 1's to single season games.

After this game, I'd also like to run back the League of Nations draft. My screwed-up exception rule that resulted in Dirk and Nash not being picked has always stuck in my craw.

Re: Future Draft Games
Unrestricted draft but it takes place in the pre-3pt line era. Or post 2000 players without a 3pt line, although that's a little gimmicky
